Having built several Savages, I will say that if I were starting again today, I’d jump on a Tikka. The action feels amazing out of the box, and when you drop it into a stock with the right bottom metal down the line, you’ll be very happy with the results (and still have both kidneys left because you don’t have to buy Tikka factory mags).

    Ditto on the SWFA 10x.

All that said, the Bergara is hard to pass up, if you can save your pennies a little longer.

This is such a subjective question. And, FWIW, my thoughts are:

    1) What are your goals with the rifles? Hunting? Steel plate? Punching holes in paper?
    2) What, precisely, is your budget? And are you including the cost of EVERYTHING you need? The rifle itself? The glass/optics? Ammo? etc.
    3) What can you expect to do with anything you shoot with your skill sets? Have you mastered the fundamentals?

I suspect many, many, many people will do just fine with a simple Ruger precision rifle and a decent scope.

If you are looking for sub-MOA results from a bolt gun, you can definitely achieve it...at what distance? Count the cost.

Thats a smoking deal. I bought those soft cheek risers from Triad tactical and yes cheep fix. Called a shooters pack I think. That gun is beautiful.

So far its been a great rifle. Well that is after I changed the trigger guard.
Its not been picky with ammo either, I threw some 168 SMK's through it yesterday evening. Went out to 700 with no problems. Ran out of adjustment for 1K which was odd. The scope was on a 700 before and it didn't run out. Im wondering if the base is actually 20moa. It is what it is.

Yeah agree with what seems like the unofficial 'consensus' or at least a majority in the thread: there are probably better choices than Savage even for a budget build. Savages are accurate, no question, but I feel they are sloppy and not well designed or made. I completely avoid Savages these days for some of the reasons Mark and PB listed, though I did own one about 10 years ago. I really hate their actions, and have experienced the feeding problems firsthand.

Outstanding budget choice these days is Tikka. And that's what I have: 2 of the T3x. One of them I kept stock 6.5 CM for hunting, the other I customized with an XLR Element stock and Proof CF barrel in 6.5, and a "switch barrel" system that I can switch out to .308 or other calibers if I get the barrels spun for those. Nice thing about Tikka's--in addition to the machining quality, smooth actions, and accuracy considering these are mass produced factory rifles--is the fact they are super easy to customize and upgrade if you decide to do that.

Is it even possible for it to be on backwards? The base? Most wouldn't fit if you tried but I forget if Sako is possible.

Nice to confirm she is a shooter.
