    New KAHLES K18i

Looks like they are coming out with a new 1-8x scope. 30mm tube, 19.5oz weight, 11.8" length, *2nd* ? focal plane, two reticle styles and *extra* bright illumination. More info on the scope at the link. For comparision, the new Vortex Gen 3 Razor HD 1-10x scope is 1.7" inch shorter but 2 ounces heavier and it will probably be less money. I think the new Vortex Gen 3 1-10x will still be the one to beat in a 8 x or 10x scope this year. https://www.kahles.at/us/competition...c6dfdfa9d505fd

Believe it or not 2nd focal plane is more than just fine for many applications and shooter.

I know everyone fashions themselves as the coolieo sniper taking that 758 yard shot with their 16" 5.56 and 1-8x24 FFP optic.

But the reality is that isn't the case or need for a ton of people.

As these LPVOs stretch towards MPVOs, more and more folks are putting them on 7.62x51mm and 6.5 Creedmoor AR-10s. Those are definitely guns where an FFP reticle might come in handy. As the L transitions to an M, I am going to guess that the windage / partial christmas tree style reticle that the Vortex 1-10 uses is going to start showing up more and more.

Good point, I agree, especially on SBR’s. For my shooting needs, 400 yds and in, my second focal plane K16i 1-6x has worked out great and I don’t find myself really needing anymore magnification, Also, not that it needs it, but I suspect at some point they may add the new Max Light function to the K16i scope.

They already are MPVO's. The USMC used 10x optics for how long on their longboi's? 1-4x was a LPVO. 1-8? Solid mid-range.

Tell me again about how a 3-9 or 2-12 is directly comparable to a 1-6 or 1-8 designed to have near red dot quality at 1x.

If you could do that, the newer MPVOs that are coming out in the 1-6 to 1-10 range are old news, and I guess nobody should care. I'll retire my 1-6 for an old Hi-Lux 3-9. I am sure it'll be just as fast at 3x, with a brightly illuminated dot.

I really think they missed out by not building this on a 34 mm tube. I have not been impressed by any 1-8x optic with a 30 mm tube (namely Schmidt and Bender).

I was hoping Kahles would offer a 1-6x withe beefed up external turrets. I rather buy another 1-6x for another AR.

It's probably the same as the Z8i from Swaro. I honestly think the Swaro's are a better, feature-filled scope but the Kahles do usually come in at a lower price point.

My 1-8 Swaro's eye box is kinda tight

As much as I love my K16i with SM-1 reticle, which seemed like a no brainer over the Vortex Gen 2 (non E) razor several years ago, I think I’d much rather have a Gen3 1-10 Razor for like 2 oz more than the K18i that apparently doesn’t over an SM-1 reticle, clear glass with crazy wide field of view and all.
