And in 6 months you lose more americans than we lost in all the wars in all the 20th century...
The Second Amendment ACKNOWLEDGES our right to own and bear arms that are in common use that can be used for lawful purposes. The arms can be restricted ONLY if subject to historical analogue from the founding era or is dangerous (unsafe) AND unusual.

    It's that simple.

Rob Pincus taught this: train every day for the probable, train enough for the possible (getting robbed), and every now and then train for the plausible (home invasion while my dominate arm is in a cast).

We are changing the nation’s course for the plausible (maybe worst case 0.2% die from COVID-19) and forgetting about the probable (95% have irreversible economic effects and millions become homeless and tens of thousands commit suicide or die from other economic causes).
Im surprised you didnt compare this to the flu...

This is a straight dick move.

    https://www.kxan.com/news/austin-com...imulus-checks/

While Congress was working out the details on a bill that would provide Americans with stimulus checks, at least one Austin company was looking for ways to save payroll.

“The form says they are preemptively deducting funds from our paychecks. That number is based on what they’re anticipating the government relief fund to be,” a worker for the company told KXAN. The worker asked not to be identified in this investigation so as not to impact his company’s ability to continue doing business.

The worker said his company emailed a form titled “Employee Acknowledgement of ‘Government Assistance’ Pay Reduction” to some staffers on Wednesday. “In response to the economic crisis that is affecting all of us due to the coronavirus pandemic…(company name redacted) are hereby enacting the Employee Emergency Compensation Fund,” the letter stated.

The agreement would put workers under a “temporary compensation reduction that is in line with the assistance that it receives from the federal government related to the COVID-19 pandemic.” By signing the agreement, the company’s employees would have their paychecks between April 6 and April 20 cut by 100% of any money received under the stimulus bill.

The company would also take half of the $500 stipend allotted for dependents under the bill.
Experience is a cruel teacher, gives the exam first and then the lesson.

I understand the 'reason' it's the same as some of the GOP saying that people might get more money on unemployment than if they kept their job with the way that the money was being done.

Can they do it? Unless you have a contract, I think that they can pay you what they want and fire you when they want- but you don't have to stay. Pure dick move and I wonder if it is a political play to parallel the GOP unemployment tweak.

    Austin, right?

Pure dick move. I'd put a 50:50 on it being a political 'meme' of GOTCHA. Not saying that it will make sense to normal people, but to trump hating crazies, I'm sure that they would see it as a genius political art masterpiece....

If the company wanted to save money, they could of just said that because of revenue hits, they were going to modify pay for the time being. (My SIL took a 40% haircut last week and will find out if she has a job APR 1.)

    I smell BS.

That’s what I’m saying. I can’t imagine a company of the scale described without Force Majeure clauses in every contract for independent contractors(for instance I just lost half a contract this way which will have a big impact on my lifestyle for the next several months.)

Regular employees of many many companies are taking pay cuts. I know Occidental did it at 5% with more to come until oil recovers. It’s better than layoffs I suppose. I cannot in any situation envision a company so willfully embracing the “we’re and evil corporation and because you’re getting money from elsewhere you won’t get it from us.”

I do suppose that it’s possible that they said, everyone is taking a pay cut of x percent, and we as a company are hopeful that it’s not too harmful to your finances as there will be government stimulus coming to most of you.

There is a pretty significant difference between the two.

Did you really say COVID19 is bad luck? I had a whole response planned but I’m too sick and too tired to type. I’ve never seen such willful ignorance in my life.

So good job for us, and now it’s time to quit worrying so much.

Thousands of people die every day from smoking, obesity and drunk driving, yet we don’t give a sh!t. For Christ’s sake, more people die from suicide by gunshot than COVID-19, yet here we are on a pro-gun forum contemplating surrendering constitutional rights to freedom of interstate movement and unlawful search and seizure, and we are going to do that because of the deaths of a few hundred people in a country of 350 million? Yep, many of those people are good, healthy people. And those same good healthy people might die because of a drunk driver going the wrong way on a freeway. It’s not fair, I get it. But we are screwing millions of people because of the risk of death for a few. Dumb. I’m over it.
Read more, post less. Go back and read the rest of the thread, especially with regard to the data from England, some of that's been refuted, some of that's been revised, some of it is still dead on.

Honestly, at this point I'm not sure I can say anything that hasn't been said. I'm going to go beat my head against the wall in frustration for people who don't understand this illness, basic statistics, epidemiology 101 as given to us by about five subject matter experts, and the input of medical experts here.
