Speaking of NIH... Fauci, said this on Jan 21.

“This is not a major threat to the people of the United States and this is not something that the citizens of the United States should be worried about right now,” Dr. Fauci told Newsmax’s Greg Kelly on January 21.

Fauci now says we must all hide under the bed while wearing masks. Yeah... the geniuses who all saw this coming.

And they should have gotten it. Two, you were not there, hence have no idea how it went, nor is all that relevant one way or another. What is relevant was W/NIH were aware of the threat then, admins before W were warned and little was done. A few countries had their act together due to prior experiences, and had plans they were able to rapidly deploy. We did not.

Indeed we should have been prepared for a random event given the frequency, but this is particularly frustrating given the likelihood assessments of a bioterrrorist attack post 9/11. We covered that already, but is incredible nonetheless.

The manpower, man hours of training, expense of equipment stores, expiration and replacement of stores, interval of sustainment/proficiency training, etc. for a significant CBRNE event, let alone CONUS, is extremely cost prohibitive.

    Before the fact.

After the fact is even worse and requires burning up more expenses and draconian policies.
With impacts on day to day life and the economy like we are seeing now.

Why we did not have basic stores of masks, hand sanitizer, etc. is beyond me.
Why we get political kickback about tightening up the border is beyond me.

Beyond that, I understand why much more significant preparations were not in place.

Agreed one a grand integrated scale, but the road map for applicable polices and federal/public health response could have been employed. The framework for this was in the bioterrorism act of 2002 as you're probably well aware.

For those unaware, reading this may give you pause: https://www.congress.gov/bill/107th-...ouse-bill/3448

And that's a large reason why we're in the chit right now. And like 9/11, anyone who'd been paying attention was not all that surprised by that event either know such an event was not if, but when, and I recall several reports that looked at methods of attacking us was via weaponizing commercial planes. What's most frustrating to me is, many people think that's the first time they'd attacked us, yet that very building had had a truck bomb go off in the basement. Back to covid, because this one actually impact Joe and Jane mall goer, their will be a lot of pissed off people who will want answers as to why we were not much better prepared.

Same old story, pay X now, or pay XXX later due to lack of prep and planning.
