Unless there is negative pressure and your mask has been fit-tested, it isn’t very effective.

I don't know seems to be pretty effective with health care workers world wide.

As much as I’d love to have a dog as part of a layered approach to home security, it’s not feasible at the moment. And in a situation where rule of law has weakened sufficiently to make me fear leaving my home unguarded, the guys who are really motivated to rip my place off are liable to just shoot the dog anyway and then loot the house.

I’m not saying things are going to get that bad, mind you, but it’s the path my mind tends to wander along.

Lied, no, assumed it was transferred similarly to SARS, yes. They lie about all sorts of things to be sure, this does not appear to be one of them. To avoid infection, keep distance from people, continue to wash hands and not touch your face. That's still the most effective approach.

While masks - correctly fitted and rated - would go a long way to preventing infection, also gives some a false sense of protection too, unless all the rest of it followed. One could also wear hazmat suit too if one is so inclined.

As always, risk/benefit, threat level, etc apply.

Just got back from a meeting with some CDC peeps, state guys, and our people. When I get a minute I will summarize, but the hot wash is: 1) it will get worse before it gets better, 2) they are not fully sure why kids have been asymptomatic (but likely carriers), 3) they may increase the list of at-risk criteria, 4) once it gets into your lungs it's really bad, 5) it's here to stay, at least for the next several months.
Will that be used to determine who does NOT get treatment in a triage situation?

I was thinking about this while eating lunch: while there are many differences between us and Italy (and the rest of the world for that matter), one big one is guns. What will happen when or if Billy gets told his Meemaw ain't getting treated 'cause she's 78yo, smokes, and has the beetus? But Billy doesn't see it that way, he LOVES his Meemaw. Sooner or later, what do you think will happen? Hell, they tell 62yo Carl that he ain't getting treated because he's a smoker and obese, but he isn't sick enough (yet) to not be able to pull a trigger.

I wonder if this is presumptive research or it has been confirmed.

Hence, very difficult to blame the gubment for making the assumption hand to face contact the major route of infection, short of someone sneezing or coughing right on you. Not sure on conformation, but I am seeing that the rates of person/person transmission now indicates airborne transmission on various legit pages. I truly hope that's not the case.

Please look into it and see what you turn up.

The high infection rate among health care workers would seem to say otherwise.

I think the US gov was dishonest in saying plainly that masks don't work, but as pointed out above they don't work that well or if not fitted right. Real protection is more like a bunny suit - full coverage, positive pressure, etc. Not practical for anything besides biohazard-specific work.

Once we get track of the people in THIS country it will be probably C19 + obese, asthma, high BP, COPD, smokers, immune compromised (cancer patients?), etc

Actually a N95 mask with splash googles is going to be effective stopping airborne droplets, but and this is a big BUT if you don't decon properly after exiting a hot zone you can carry the infection with you on your clothes, shoes, skin, hair, PPE etc.
