Its almost like there were people saying something like this was going to happen over a month ago yet were drowned out by moronic comparisons to the flu and even the common cold.

Oh and in the other thread that got locked, hows that plane trip to Prague working out? Whats that about not changing your plans because of coronavirus? I guess Trump had something to say about that.

But, this means that the Chi-Coms could be the greatest threat to mankind presently on this planet, sharing the top spot with radical Islam.

not sure where the original is forgot but this has been out like ten years and sadly still has some underline truth to it
replace the debt with they relied on us for EVERYTHING even their medicine and its good/updated for today

I’m not saying things are going to get that bad, mind you, but it’s the path my mind tends to wander along.
Someone should write a movie about a home invasion, dog murder, vengeance and, oh nevermind.

My dad has been planning on coming out for a few months now, and is supposed to fly on Friday. He's early 70's in otherwise good health.

Thinking pretty strongly about talking to him tomorrow and rescheduling this trip. I don't want to do any of the outings we had planned now anyways. I figured on laying low to see how this spreads so nothing else other than work and grocery store. Only one adult to the grocery store for those trips.

We got an email from the kid's school talking about cancelling the rest of the school year, and they'll look at things over spring break which starts next week.

And I gotta say **** the Chinese.

Except nothing is really happening except a bunch of hysteria and knee-jerk reactions.

As more and more people are being tested, morality rates are plummeting compared to what was first thought. We keep getting told that it’s very transmissible, yet the numbers are still relatively low. It has been at least three incubation periods since suspending travel to China. Now we are suspending travel to Europe.

Annually there are 5 million cases of influenza and 650,000 deaths.

Influenza, like COVID19, is a respiratory virus spread by respiratory droplets (though they CDC is urging airborne predations for healthcare workers—WHO insist COVID19 is droplet), that is typically dangerous to the elderly and those with co-morbidities. Influenza kills children where COVID19 seems not to. Both can lead to bronchitis and pneumonia.

We have vaccines and evidence-based treatment regimes for influenza but not COVID19.

You’re right, we shouldn’t compare the two. Flu has been killing a shitton of people every year and covid19 hasn’t.

    People fear the unknown.

    Hi all,

A friend forwarded this information that she received from a hyper-vigilant professor friend who is quarantined in China and teaching her university classes on-line. It contains information about how the sickness presents and some further precautions that I have not seen elsewhere, so I thought I would share.

The new Coronavirus may not show sign of infection for many days. How can you know if you are infected? By the time you have fever and/or cough and go to the hospital, the lung is usually 50% fibrosis. Taiwan experts provide a simple self-check that we can do every morning:

Take a deep breath and hold it for more than 10 seconds. If you do this successfully without coughing, without discomfort, stiffness or tightness, there is no fibrosis in the lungs; it basically indicates no infection. In critical times, please self-check every morning in an environment with clean air.

Serious excellent advice by Japanese doctors treating COVID-19 cases: Everyone should ensure your mouth & throat are moist, never dry. Take a few sips of water every 15 minutes at least. Why? Even if the virus gets into your mouth, drinking water or other liquids will wash them down through your throat and into the stomach. Once there, your stomach acid will kill all the virus. If you don't drink enough water regularly, the virus can enter your windpipe and then the lungs. That's very dangerous.

    Also:

    1. If you have a runny nose and sputum, you have a common cold.
    2. Coronavirus pneumonia is a dry cough with no runny nose.
    3. This new virus is not heat-resistant and will be killed by a temperature of just 26/27 degrees C. (About 77 degrees F.) It hates the Sun.
    4. If someone sneezes with it, it goes about 10 feet before it drops to the ground and is no longer airborne.
    5. If it drops on a metal surface it will live for at least 12 hours - so if you come into contact with any metal surface, wash your hands as soon as you can with a bacterial soap.
    6. On fabric it can survive for 6-12 hours. normal laundry detergent will kill it.
    7. Drinking warm water is effective for all viruses. Try not to drink liquids with ice.
    8. Wash your hands frequently as the virus can only live on your hands for 5-10 minutes, but - a lot can happen during that time - you can rub your eyes, pick your nose unwittingly and so on.
    9. You should also gargle as a prevention. A simple solution of salt in warm water will suffice.
    10. Can't emphasize enough - drink plenty of water! THE SYMPTOMS:
    1. It will first infect the throat, so you'll have a sore throat lasting 3/4 days
    2. The virus then blends into a nasal fluid that enters the trachea and then the lungs, causing pneumonia. This takes about 5/6 days further.
    3. With the pneumonia comes high fever and difficulty in breathing.
    4. The nasal congestion is not like the normal kind. You feel like you're drowning. It's imperative you then seek immediate attention.

If you find this useful please share.

That repost has been floating around for a while. It's made up BS.

It's been attributed to "Taiwan Experts,” “Stanford University,” or “Stanford Hospital Board."

Fibrosis occurs when excess connective tissue is deposited in the lungs in response to scarring or other factors. It has never been a symptom.
The “self-check,” implies damage to the lungs would precede other symptoms including coughing, even though it is the coughing that would be responsible for any respiratory damage in the first place.

Yeah, Trump's speech did make my decision easier. We had pretty much decided to cancel due to so much stuff shutting down in Europe but where going to make our final decision by Friday. Guess I don't have to worry about it other than to go through the process of trying to get refunds on everything I had already paid for. I am sure dealing with American Airlines will be fun.

Might want to let Italy know the mortality rate is supposed to be low. I don't think they got the memo.

Well this stuff has now cost me money. A business deal worth a lot of money has now been put on hold, due to the lack of an expert that can travel. So we are now scrambling to find a replacement.

I need to travel, so as soon as we solve the above problem. I will be wheels up, USA to Mexico, then to Switzerland, then to a multi state visit in Africa. Last place in Africa is Ethiopia, if I have to stay there for a few weeks, no problem. I will rent a 4 wheel drive, buy a pistol and an AK, and then do a tour and see lions and tigers and bears oh my.

If I grow tired of Ethiopia, I will look for a place with little or no virus, great beaches and scuba diving and kill some more time.

The bottom line is my only fear is ramifications for the election.

What happened back in 2010 with the swine flu? I was young and didn't give a shit back then. Vaguely remember it being mentioned. Now I look it up and it seems like there were millions infected in the US and over 12k died. Up to half million died worldwide in about a year.

April 26 2009 US declares public health emergency
    June 11 2009 H1N1 is now considered a pandemic
October 24 2009 President Obama declared national emergency

Why with millions infected and over 12k dead was this not a big deal back then?
