You don't say. I thought it only hit the elderly in a serious way? You know, those old bastards who will die anyway before too long......

I have seen where as time goes on that the oft-mentioned two weeks is in fact a good deal shy of what to expect. Also the prospect of re-contracting the virus hasn't been ruled out either (which would really suck).

Factor in ease of transmission (known), probably longer than two weeks isolation (becoming more known), and catching it more than once (debatable at a minimum) and you can see why some think .gov has been a little short on providing information.

Things will get worse before they get better.

This whole event just gets dumber and dumber. I have no words at this point.

57 dead. Who gives a shit about 57 dead. There’s more than 57 people killed by drunk driving and texting while driving accidents every fu@king week.

The absolute miss handling of this whole situation is going to continue to drive the panic into a frenzy. With the latest news from the Fed we are going to head right into a depression. Like a real deal depression 1930’s style. The economic impact of shutting a country down for 57 dead is going to be beyond our wildest dreams, maybe nightmares

I could very well see as we were having to line up for our rations.

    Their families?

I get your point but the aspects of this virus that are becoming known....the ease of transmission, likely > 2 week disease course, and questions about re-catching it....certainly warrant attention. Shut down the entire country? Not sure about that yet, but it won't matter to me as I am in the medical field. If there's a screwing that will take place I will be smack-dab in the middle of it.

    I think were there...

Coronavirus 'emergency'? Oregon police ask people to stop calling 911 because they ran out of toilet paper
The simple fact of the matter is this, America has never not been great.

It’s pretty simple. This is a VERY contagious virus and can spread for days when you aren’t showing symptoms. Due to this, we would have an exponential number of new cases every day. If you don’t know what that means it’s a curve that starts slow and ramps up really really fast and goes through the roof.

Now sure, it’s not going to kill everyone who gets it but that’s not the point. It can send younger people to the ICU and guess what? If our hospitals are overflowing because we didn’t do anything to lessen the transmission a lot more people will die than is necessary. If we can slow the spread by social distancing then we have less of a chance of overwhelming the medical facilities and staff.

If we don’t do enough we are going to look back and ask why we didn’t do more, if we make the right moves it will seem like it wasn’t as big of a deal as it actually is/was. Someone smarter than me said that but I don’t know who so I can’t attribute the credit properly.

Our testing in the US has been utterly pathetic. All we had to do was copy Korea but there were too many people saying this was a nothingburger and it was a grand conspiracy and so here we are. We had a chance to contain it earlier and failed. Now we have to take more extreme measures. We must practice social distancing, washing our hands and avoiding touching our face when in public, and we must, for the love of god, figure out a way to get testing available and get the results quicker. Nothing else will do more at this point.
