I’m not saying its crazy. Just a bit more than I expected. I’ve not done critical care in a couple years, though.

Never said those were crazy settings for ARDS. Just saying that if you have a PEEP +18 with an FiO2 of 100% and are only getting a PO2 of 40 then it would not hurt to consider alternatives like some of those special ventilatory modes the good vents have available on them.

1st known reported case of Covid 19, was December 1st, 2019. It came from China and was diagnosed as such within a few days of the intial screening. I have been reading international articles on it since mid December.
If it was 10 times more deadly and 15 times more contaigous. I feel like we would have more than 7ķ world wide deaths...I will concede we dont know what happened in China, but South Korea has administered over 200k tests, in 7 weeks and is getting a negative rate, over 98%.
That math breaks out to 4k known confirmations in that test group and at 10x more deadly than the flu(.01) that is 400 fatalities...is that worth destroying the global economy? Outside of Italy(see below) the seasonal flu is out pacing it by a bunch. We can flatten the curve ane all that Jazz, but we let roughly 30k people innthe US die from the flu, without batting an eye...EVERY DAMN YEAR and we dont destroy the economy for the FLU/HIV/diabetes/heart disease....so on and so forth.

Wanna know why the Italians are getting crushed? Because a kid gets his 1st cigarette and glass of wine at 7 years old. They all have respiratory issues at 60 and Covid is particular hostile to that condition.

Again with none contagious disease comparison? You can't pass AIDS or heart disease or car accident or diabetes to anyone by simply talking to them or by wiping your snot and the touching a door handle. No matter how hard one tries it's not going to work.

So when does one take action? Say 6 months from now we have half million dead assuming we get to 2-3%. Is that when we decide that it's actually more than a regular flu and it's time to start doing something?

By the way South Korea looked everything down without so much as a complaint immediately after the first few cases

I remember my senior year in highschool. Damn near every kid was a chain smoker in 1998.

What could go wrong getting your news from Yahoo!?

So how is this virus comparable in relation to the H1N1 from 2009?

Are you saying the government is not seriously discussing cutting Americans a check?

This virus is not comparable to H1N1, it is it’s own thing.

Assuming we are fractional as successful at locking things down as S. Korea, say 10% as efficient, we should expect under 5,000 dead.

Right now S. Korea stands at 81 dead, we already have 102. If we assume the same death rate per capital and multiply out that we are 10% as successful you get something like 4,700. We would have to be total f*ck ups to see 500,000 dead despite all the nutty shit that we have implemented already. Let's even say we are 1% as successful as S. Korea, that's 50K, not 500K. Maybe if we did nothing, okay, then I can see it.

I get that it isn't over in S. Korea, but they are on the down slope with only 74 new cases reported yesterday. They are getting pretty close to done.
