Additionally serum ferritin is not specific to COVID-19, so other disease and inflammatory factors would have an effect (for example, rheumatoid arthritis).

There are lots of other ways to detect for immune mediated and inflammations response as well (such as alpha1 acid glycoproteins, serum albumin, liver enzymes...). However, it may be easier to employ the cytokine release syndrome (CRS) grading scales from the American Society of Blood and Marrow Transplantation (ASBMT) that are used for CRS and CAR-T therapy: http://www.factwebsite.org/uploadedF...0IECs.2018.pdf

Does that make sense? I'm trying to multitask
Thats exactly why we are giving hydrochloroquine to people, to try to reduce the amount of IL-6, IL-10 cytokines released during late stage COVID19 that causes multiorgan failure. Best case you can get them on remdesivir if the pt meets the criteria but if not trying to decrease the immune over response without stopping the body from fighting the virus is the best you can do but is really tricky to pull off.

This. Where is the government response for how to be tested? Instead, they tell you to stay inside and avoid people.

Our testing procedures have been a complete and utter failure. It’s absolutely pathetic that South Korea could get it down and all we had to do is copy them yet we are still barely testing anyone. Why can’t we get more and better tests out there so we can actually know who has this and who doesn’t?

They even offered to sell to us. One kit is/was less than $20 and tests 1000 people. They weren't sure why the US declined but best guess....FDA!

Yes, it's been abysmal. Look at WV, which we knew had cases- tested 84 people (!) as of yesterday. Today they're up to 136 with one positive (12 more are pending). Thus, no more US States without cases.

NC labs can't keep up, they are backlogged 1,200 tests and they are running them 24/7.

Selfish behavior knows no age limits. Be it the Millennial crowd not giving a shit because they're young and still going to St. Paddy's Day parties or Spring Break, or MeeMaw and PeePaw who "think" they have it but just wanna know (then next week will go back again because PeePaw, who smoked for half a freaking century, has a cough).

Please tell me that regular, more-than-symptomatic testing will be done on healthcare workers, right? Like once COVID-19 hits your facility that employees will be tested every couple of days. I won't hold my breath waiting for that to happen.

Sorry - please don't hold your breath as it's not happening. I'm rather shocked at the abysmal testing capacity as well as the lack of timely results currently available for both patients and staff.
