I agree...there was a thread on our tx hunting forum where somebody suggested the feds reimburse / compensate owners of hotels & help make room if needed. I agreed as long as it was voluntary from ownership & got ripped by a respected gal who is a nurse asking where all the medical support was going to come from this pipe dream. Was kinda surprised & retorted that it was my impression we were already preemptively producing make shift facilities in hot zones on football fields etc & why make them if no personal support & why wouldn't empty hotels work the same way having AC / individual rooms vs tents. I got crickets

I also mentioned how well S. Korea had responded to this issue during their initial attack & read where that country has like a crazy 5x or more the hospital beds per capita compared to the US. I'm mostly curious about the 20/20 hindsight to compare this cootie to the various annual flu / swine flu / etc deaths. I don't think the initial projections / spread will be any more significant than any other cootie only because we test those with symptoms. My entire household was feeling icky about 3 weeks ago with cold / mild flu symptoms & there are a BUNCH of folks reporting they were really sick back in late Jan - early Feb who went to the doc & tested negative for the flu. I simply do not trust the % of cases to death #'s & that is all.

Anyone saying that it kills or caused morbidity at whatever percent can’t be taken too seriously. We’ve known for months that the majority of infected people suffer symptoms so weak that there only true hypochondriacs would visit a physician. They don’t get tested and are not counted in the percentages. The massive numbers of people exposed who never get sick at all are not counted in the percentages.

It’s a burden on our healthcare system, because in some people(currently people generally considered by this board as upstanding contributors to society) it’s severe. Not more severe than a million other things we deal with, but a severe thing in addition to those.

Unlike so many epidemics and pandemics that generally befall only the poorest, this one is hitting people that fly for work, that take cruises in their retirement, that do a million things people who get Ebola don’t do. So the fear is much more real to many more people.

The reality is that it may not be a very dangerous thing, and that it also has to be treated as a very dangerous thing. Because a 0.5% mortality rate across three hundred million Americans is 1.5 million people. Let’s hope that it’s less than that.

I still believe the economic damage is the real legacy to be felt for years.

Here is something that makes no sense to me. Perhaps someone can help me understand.

I know where the concept of the 6 feet between people comes from. I had a vet in college that taught us as a general rule there needed to be at least 6 feet between animal cages to greatly reduce the chances of spreading most contagious diseases.

What the hell is 6 feet between people going to do when this C19 is supposedly able to survive on airborne micro droplets for 3 hours, and on surfaces for days? It makes no sense.

I know of a lot of people who've been sick this year, all recovered, and the symptoms line up perfectly. If this thing spreads this easily, I can't imagine that anyone in this country hasn't already been exposed to it, myself included. Like any sickness, exposure is not a guarantee that you'll become sick and show symptoms. Some people's immune systems simply fight it off.

Something is fishy here. Very fishy. Red herring fishy. Now we have a Universal Basic Income plan being proposed and supported by both sides? Free gift money for everyone adding up to trillions? Lots of new gun control bills being slipped in? We're being played. We're so screwed...

I think, and it is a guess or something I heard, that the droplets that are most likely to cause disease are pretty heavy and fall fast. So 6 feet keeps it from the air that you are breathing. I think that was it. Of course there can be air currents....

The surfaces thing is what gets me. I'm still not sure what the 'clean zone' is when I bring food and packaging home from the store, or get mail.

What I find interesting is the mirror asymmetry to the 2008 GFC. Now this isn't totally true, but in 2008 manufacturers took it in the shorts- order for goods just literally stopped and that froze the supply chain. BUT, it seems that service industry, while hit definately, wasn't hit as hard as manufacturing, or as fast.

Now this time, it seems like manufacturing is limping along OK, while the service industry has taken it hard- harder than manufacturing in 2008. Now obviously the car guys are shut down, guess it always sucks to be them... but the differences are interesting.

I work for a manufacturer that sells into a wide range of industries, and I'll hear the latest numbers tomorrow- which I know are off. But what we learned after 2008, if you go too 'cold' getting back up and running a a major bitch. We drive through it, but competitors didn't and we kicked ass because of the ability to supply. Here's hoping that this one is a sharp V recovery.

COVID-19 is real, and whether released intentionally or not is killing people around the world. However, it is providing the perfect opportunity for the globalists/communists in our government to see how far they can go in their power grab. Get everyone scared enough, shut down enough businesses, create massive unemployment, crash the economy, foster shortages of necessities and people will accept big daddy government running their lives. We have de facto martial law in a few major cities with people being threatened with arrest if they don't comply and they are okay with it. Foster a little fear of a microbe and the majority are willing to accept the shredding of the Constitution.

Just flipping channels and MSNBC has a Staff Journalist from the Atlantic come on and Scarborough and Brezinski began picking apart Trump's Corona Virus policies.
Apparently he's not doing enough to get people tested according to them.
That this is a political football has shown me that the Democrats have no shame, no policy, no viable candidates or any platform but Socialism.
In the meantime Nancy Pelosi is pushing for Billions for the arts and museums and holding up a bill that would help all Americans unless she gets it.

That would be if everyone got it all at once though - which is next to impossible in the real world. What I don't understand is why not concentrate the efforts on isolating and locking down the "at risk" crowd. Everyone else can operate next to normal - extra conscious hygiene is still practiced. That way you have 2 curves. One that is flattened because it matters, and the other can do what it wants to an extent because it doesn't.

Because if you or I get it, we likely could have mild or no symptoms, then we get around granny or Uncle Joe, and they go from OK to fixing-to-die in 6 hours.

Personally, I think the truth is in the middle: we can achieve what we need without draconian BS shelters-in-place and shut-downs. Self-quarantine, social distancing, and modified work environments (without the .gov oversight or arm-twisting) may well likely be good enough.
