As a former student in both Architecture AND Engineering,this post reminded me of a joke from those days...

One day, an architect, a mechanical engineer and a civil engineer are sharing a table at lunch and debating what kind of engineer God was when he designed the human body. The architect expounds for a good five minutes comparing the human skeleton to a skyscraper's: light weight, high strength for weight, and self-repairing. "Surely God was an architect." The mech engineer is next, comparing the muscles and ligaments and tendons to various machinery. "Surely the Lord was a mechanical engineer!" Finally it's the civil engineer's turn, but he's just Dead Air. The other two look at each other, they look at the CE, then back at each other, and in stereo they exclaim, "He must have been a civil engineer, because who else would route a toxic waste pipeline through a recreational area?!"

What part of VA you from? Central here, and nobody has been staying home. I doubt this will change anything. I’ve been staying in as much as possible

Not sure what part you call call central but I have been driving around Richmond, Henrico, Hanover, Powhatan, Chesterfield, Goochland, New Kent, and others for 36 years. I have never seen so many people home. I told someone the other day it looks like the day after Christmas used to look when no stores were open.

Now they may not be staying inside the house but they are home in masses. Cars line the streets through the subdivisions. I've never seen anything like it. Just turning around in a cul-de-sac can be a pain. Townhouse complexes loaded up.

I know there are still a lot of people out and about but for instance the nearby Publix you can easily go up and down aisles with no people in them. Parking lot looks like 30-40% of normal. Now a FoodLion in Goochland where it's the only game in town, they are pretty heavily loaded but in locations where you can choose 5 stores in a few miles. They are all pretty thin.

The roads in general have a lot less traffic. The back roads in Chesterfield like River, Nash, Beach I haven't seen them this devoid of traffic in years. 522 from Goochland to Powhatan no problem.

I've had to check my speed many times because there's nothing in front of me either direction. I tend to drive with the flow and here lately I have been the flow.

At this point I mainly listening Fauci because I think he’s the most levelheaded about this

You do realize that the death count is FOR OVER A YEAR time frame, and we will blow through that 12k probably in the first week of April, less than a month since we were put on lockdown? We will have 10-20X that, and that doesn't really figure in if there is a Fall wave too. And all this is with these extreme measures. If we did nothing and treated it like the Flu? I don't know how many would die. Maybe 500k, probably more after you saturate the ICUs and they start extreme triage on people.

It's coming, or it's not. America is blessed, so maybe it won't be as bad as the facts point to. Even Trump blew through his mid April date and talked north of 100k deaths. That's a clue.

Our church is doing everything online and has stopped all gatherings of any kind because it is important to do so at this time for all
But church gathering is important and will continue when we can of course

A lot of churches are not about Christianity these days they’re about making money trying to be an authority figure etc. as we all know they’ll be many false prophets I bet more kids went on spring break then churches had congregations sadly a lot of people won’t do what’s best for others only for themselves

I'm not sure how prevalent this is, but how has your churches handled this? I did see a church service ending in predominantly black church close to my place yesterday that was full of people coming out. It's obviously a difficult issue.

Florida Church Packed with Worshipers

The River Church in Tampa was packed to the gills with worshipers who clearly were looking for hope. Pastor Rodney Howard-Browne, who presides over the megachurch and has been reportedly defiant over social distancing, has claimed he'll cure coronavirus just the way he did with Zika.

He has vowed he will never close his church ... despite every doctor and scientist saying social distancing is the only thing that will prevent the disease from spreading even more.

The Pastor boasted his place was white-glove clean, saying, “We brought in 13 machines that basically kill every virus in the place, and uh, if somebody walks through the door it’s like, it kills everything on them. If they sneeze, it shoots it down at like 100 mph. It'll neutralize it in split seconds. We have the most sterile building in, I don’t know, all of America.”

Howard-Browne said on March 17, "We are not stopping anything. I've got news for you, this church will never close. The only time the church will close is when the Rapture is taking place.”

Did anyone ever truly believe the Chinese were telling the truth?

No way for the government but some of the people have been telling the truth about what’s going on and of course some people are also making it out worse than it is

as we know the truth is somewhere in between all that mess and we will never know the truth

The biologist told the agents that a colleague in China had asked him to deliver the vials to a researcher at a U.S. institute. After examining the vials, however, customs agents came to an alarming conclusion.

“Inspection of the writing on the vials and the stated recipient led inspection personnel to believe the materials contained within the vials may be viable Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) materials,” says an unclassified FBI tactical intelligence report obtained by Yahoo News.

This is crazy to think that it appears this happens regularly with the Chinese. It wouldn't be hard for them to send in a few of their people with some vials of something lethal and contagious in itty bitty vials to just go into some large city and release it in markets or some large venue. They don't really need to send their people here. Just infect a few international airline flights with something like the Chinese virus and shazamm! ... world wide baby. From what is going on these days, it doesn't necessarily need to be lethal. Just look at how people are reacting to this Chinese virus. I wouldn't put it past the Chinese these days with the President trying to hold them accountable for their economic "cheating" and technology theft. Payback... and a way to level out the playing field back out for them.

I still don't believe "we" know just what exactly we are dealing with when it comes to this chinese virus. It's gone from us being told not to worry about it because it doesn't transmit from human to human back in January to now being told to avoid other human contact and social lock downs til at least June. What's it going to be like in a couple of weeks because it certainly seems like professional opinions on this virus keeps changing and not for the better.

There’s a Canadian angle to this too, researchers were “asked to leave” Canada after their access to a virology facility was questioned.

I suspect what sent everyone back to the drawing board was the spring breakers getting infected and then dispersing across the South East, spreading it to areas that would have most likely remained clear.

My mom talked to her sister in Rehobeth Beach this weekend. She said they were packed with people from New York and New Jersey hanging out on the beach, etc. I've seen quite a few New York plates among other state plates on cars here in SW Virginia the last few days. Pretty much stupidity and/or selfishness is helping to spread this around too. If people aren't going to do the right thing to prevent this from spreading, then why would you not expect the gubbamint to step in and lock things down.

I mean...if you owned a house in Rehoboth(my ex does,) and you lived in DC or the city, or God forbid Baltimore, would you not go spend your quarantine in your cottage in Rehoboth? I hate to say it, but ten times out of ten I would.
