Not yet, but thanks for the heads up. My .308 bolt gun seems to like the 175 better than the 168 in FGM. I'll snag some of the 185's, and give them a try.

It is going to be a couple of weeks before I can hit a decent range with some room, however.

Curious to hear how these do. I loaded some 190's once upon a time and they didn't give me instant gratification so I sold them off. Always nice to have an alternative to the 175gr SMK.

I shot my 308 yesterday and got busy and never got to them. Moved a bunch of steal around and maintenance at the ranch kicked my arse.

I've got a couple of boxes of the Bergers sitting on my bench, but always seem to default to the 175 SMK OT version. The Tipped not so much. Failing that the 155.5's or 155 SMK 2156 do good service for me. I really should explore the 185's potential now that my club has steel at 1,100 yards.

Edit to add that I would be curious as to the velocity the Federal load achieves in various barrel lengths. Thanks

We can chrono some this weekend out of at least one .308... maybe two. Is the bullet a "hybrid"?

I too favor the 175 gr OTM. We have been messing with the tipped bullet however due to shooting the mile the last few weeks. We need every bit of velocity and B.C. we can get for a .308 to get there.

These are the boxes, that is what they are :-)

My notes show that just under 43 grains of Varget gave me about 2600+ ft/secs in my 26.5" Rock Creek barrel and .3 MOA at 400 yards... a while ago so I'll have to work that one out again.

To my knowledge the 185 juggernaut is not a hybrid, but has a tangent ogive. I believe the projectile was designed to transition consistently through the transonic range and the longer pointier designs make that difficult.

Berger makes a 185gr hybrid that has a higher BC than the juggernaut should be just as jump tolerant but probably won't do as well once it starts hitting the transonic range.

I did some testing a few years ago with the Juggernauts in my F-tr rifle. When I develop a load I always start with a jammed seating depth then adjust from there. Shooting groups at 300, with a .005" jam I got avg group size of 1.5", with a .005 jump it dropped to 1.25" and at a .020 jump it dropped to .75". My experiences with my rifle, obviously not gospel. I did not have a chrono at the time to see if seating depth had a substantial impact on velocity, could have been a factor.

I shot the Federal Bergers 185 Jug's and they shot lights out from my Daniel Defense Delta 5. 20 inch barrel , 5 shot string 2466fps SD12. My group was somewhere near .25 inch. If my goofy ass can get a pic up, I took one. I was very impressed.

Later in the day when it got hotter, Mark produced 2506 FPS.
