No amount of money given freely out of my own pocket, or Tax dollars taken from me seem to be making a real difference in their lives.
To be honest, I have more respect for immigrants who come here legally, work to earn a living and go about their lives without ending up on skid row, bumming money at an intersection or to be stepped over as they lay in their own vomit near 6th street.
illegal immigration, totally different story, I'm a big fan or turning them around and marching them back across the border irregardless of their situation.
Not discounting anything you said, but some people never really had a chance. If you are born to drug addicted shitbags who abuse you and see you as nothing but a barter chip for benefits, the deck is heavily stacked against you and those who come out the other end "mostly ok" are going to be an anomaly.
Legal immigrants shouldn't even be part of this discussion, they came here legally like more of our great grandfathers. To me they are Americans or at the very least, lawful visitors. I see them like everyone else.
There are homeless and "at risk of becoming homeless" people who can be helped and want help if they can get it. Some directly contributed to their problems, others are a victim of circumstances beyond their control. I'd rather help those who can be helped before saying we need more immigrants.
And lastly, I'm fine with immigrants, but we shouldn't accept a single person until we have mostly solved the problem of illegal immigration.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.
Chuck, we miss ya man.
