    Recommendations SBR Weaponlight Please

    Gents & Gentetts,
    Recommendations please for SBR weapon light for new Troy A4 556 10.5" 'Other Firearm' (similar to attached pic) before Socialist State of NJ catches on and bans them. Running Aimpoint T-2 Micro with Troy Folding Battle sights (absolute co-witness).
    Been reading a lot on here and appreciate the shared knowledge and experiences like Canonshooter and others pics and recommendations. Retired, so firearm will be used self-defense, home & property, 100 yards+ rear property - dark. (Understand SBRs are not normally for long range shooting but would like to identify any threats in the distant dark.) Casual recreational shooter mountains, Right handed.

    Definitely want most compact, no remote switch, tail cap activated; M-LOK Mount.
    M-LOK mounted on 11 O'clock rail.

    Initially thinking Dual Output. Thoughts?

    New Surefire Mini Scout Pro (M34oC) 4.1" with its own M-LOK mount looks good but its not dual and not sure if it would be too bright inside?

    Surefire XH-35 @ 3.7" another possibility? When they say 'most universal rails' does that include M-LOK?

    In mounting on 11 O'clock rail, should I use a 45 degree offset? Inline?

    Mount recommendations please with least amount of real-estate.

    Any other quality light manufacturers suggestions appreciated.

    Would appreciate personal experiences when possible.

    Thank you in advanced.

    Lots of great options now available. I think the first consideration is beam pattern - are you looking for a wide beam with moderate throw (high lumens, low candela) for 50 yards and under with plenty of spill for situational awareness, or a beam with lots of reach (mid lumens, high candela) that can illuminate targets at greater distance with spill illumination as the trade off?

    Modlite comes to mind first, I think they have best options currently available (PLH or OKW). Or you could do Arisaka with a Malkoff head, which could give you the performance you're looking for in the most compact, lightweight package.

    What are the defensive scenarios you want to be best equipped for?

    Arisaka-Malkoff set up shown below. Depending on your answer to the above question, I can suggest a Malkoff head.

    Canon, thanks for the reply. I wasn’t aware of Frankenstein flashlights, I’m now ordering Malkoff drop-in for my Surefire C2 Centurion make-over; C2 & I have been through a ton of shite together here and in our travels.

    Exploring the Arisaka 300 Series FDE with Malkoff E1HT Scout Head. I Like the less real estate it takes up. I May jump to 600 Series??
    Which tail-cap do you suggest: Arisaka Momentary or SF Z68?
    Mounting on the 11 O’clock M-LOK rail, which mount: Offset Scout or In-line Scout?

    Personal Defense/Home Invasion/Perimeter - Home/Mountain Cabin. Recreational, non-competition shooting.

    Thank You Again.

    If you are OK with using Li-ion rechargeable cells, you can use a 600 series head on the 300 body using a 16340 cell. Otherwise use a 600 series body with two CR123 batteries.

    Malkoff head options;

    E2 Super/Scout M600 2CR123 High Output Head - 900 lumens/12,000 candela. A broader beam, good for close-in work (40 - 50 yards) with a bright spill. Perhaps best with irons or a RDS.

    E2 Hyper Throw/Scout M600 2CR123 High Output Head - 500 lumens/35,000 candela. In many ways I think this is the ideal beam pattern for a rifle, especially if you are using magnified optics. For outdoors this one will give plenty of reach for defensive purposes and as such would be the head I would recommend for WML use on a rifle/AR pistol.

    For a tailcap I'd lean the Arisaka for its momentary only (twist for constant on) operation. The Z68 is fine too but features clicky operation, so you would need to control the press to avoid clicking it constant on.

    I updated an old M951 with this EDC Plus drop-in. It's build quality is not quite up to Malkoff standards but I like the beam pattern it produces. It's rated at 560 lumens and I estimate its candela to be in the 18,000 range based on comparing it to lights with known ratings. I also updated an old Z2 Combat Light with this drop-in and have been pleased.

    Note - I prefer my carbine sans a WML, so I roll with something that I can attach/detach easily. The updated M951 fills this role well for me.

    Here's a Lego build that rides on a shortened 1187;

    All of the above lights use the same EDC Plus drop-in.

    Modlite OKW with Arisaka mount for the distance or PLH for more of a CQB role. I am also a fan of the Surefire 600DF for the best of both worlds.

    I like the idea of 600 Series Head on 300 Body with 16340 rechargeable but I don’t see it on Arisaka’s page.

    Also, I found a You-Tube video comparison of Arisaka Off-Set vs Inline. Surprisingly, The off-set Mount brings light in for a slightly tighter fit.

    You will have to Lego it - buy the parts separately vs. buying a complete light. Beware runtime will be considerably shorter with a 16340 700mAh cell, especially with a higher output head like the Modlite. If you go Modlite, use their 18350 body - 18350 cells are available up to 1200mAh of capacity.

    Any idea of wait time re. Arisaka re-stocking?

    One of my favorite setups is a Modlite OKW head on their 18350 body in an Arisaka offset mount and SF DS07 tailcap/switch with a Cloud Defensive LCS.
    Gettin' down innagrass.
