    Sling mount options 870 SBS

On one of my SBS 870’s 14” Barrel I and wanting to move the forward sling mount to a better location.
On my other three SBS I have the sling mount on the +1 mag extension. This one has a different mag extension and doesn’t have that option.
I currently have the QD mount of the magpul hand guard. I am not fond because it’s uncomfortable holding it with my hand resting beside it after shooting a few boxes of ammo.
My next concern is the added stress on the “action bars”, if that’s the correct term, and don’t like the idea that the sling varies in length/slack when I cycle the pump/hand guard.

There isn’t enough room to install the mag tube/barrel clamp to make that a sling attachment point. I prefer not to buy another +1 mag extension since this isn’t my primary shotgun.

I looked into this with my Remington Tac-14.
I don't quite understand the problem with the 4th SBS vs. the other three SBSs. It'd seem to me you (the poster) would be more expert than anybody as to what will work having four short barreled shotguns.

The Magpul 870 fore-end doesn't seem to readily allow the under-the-mag-extension mount as the fore-end protrudes a bit too much.

Then there's a replacement mag tube cap with a sling swivel, although that would replace the mag extension and result in the mag tube cap being covered by the Magpul fore-end.

I don't know how well cutting the Magpul fore-end will work. Replacing the entire fore-end with a Remington 870P-type might be an alternative.

On my similar Tac-14, I've got a quick-detach mount on the pistol grip adaptor and went with a Magpul sling converted to single-point use. Magpul has various slings with mounts should a single-point method be used with a shotgun.

The single-point option was the best option for me as I like the MLOK slots for a light on my Magpul handguard/fore-end.

Here's a Wilson-Combat one-round mag extension which has a sling stud built in. I didn't try this but looks like a good option if it works with the Magpul fore-end.

Edited to add: also take a look at Wilson-Combat's website for pictures of its shotguns and how they're handling the forward sling mounts.

I use one of these: https://www.gggaz.com/remington-870-...tachments.html

If you do not have a mag extension, it will still work. I have one of these and have used it with a Wilson +1 extension when running a Vang Comp 14" barrel, and without the mag extension on a custom 12" barrel. It has never been an issue in multiple shotgun classes. I only use a sling for classroom work, around the house it does not wear a sling.

    Hope that helps.

He has a Magpul forearm which overlaps the magazine tube/cap junction point.

Ah, gotcha - I did miss that.

It sounds like you have a choice of Dremeling the forearm or buying the new mag tube extension, which you already said you didn't want to do.

I don't know what 870 Tactical the OP has. They make a 7 round edition without a removable extension. The mag tube built into the receiver is longer and the barrel hanger is out toward the muzzle. I he has one with the standard tube the GG&G accessory won't work. It goes over the tube and behind the nut. The MagPul handguard pretty much shrouds the nut. I can put up a picture if needed.

Just in case the OP checks back:

Would you be adverse to drill a hole into the end of your magazine extension and using the short machine screw from this kit to attach the QD socket? (I have 4 shotguns with magtube extensions -three of the four already have a hole drill in the end - so you may not have to drill)

If you are using a rifle type front sight, how about girth hitching a piece of Kevlar boot lace to the barrel to create a loop? Similar to the Proctor sling set up.

If you look at the pictures for this universal sling kit, it has a high temp cord for that purpose.

Yes, the magpul hand guard overlaps the mag extension. The +1 extension is flush with the 14” barrel.
I have the Wilson combat extension on other shotguns and they work great but this one has different extension.

I like the GG&G sling mount but don’t want to cut my hand guard.
Plus if I mount the sling in front of the hand guard it will block the light on the right side (I’m left handed). Hints why I was trying to mount the sling behind the light on the hand guard. Just with the recoil the QD mount was reeking havoc on my thumb and I’m afraid of damaging the action bars.

Jsbhike, do you have a pic of the sling loop attachment?

I guess my only other option is a single point sling.
