Besides that, I think we may see some reluctance on the part of our friends in blue regarding the more radical positions. For instance, in my house district, a Republican will never be elected. Not for decades, anyway. Hard core union, heavy “free stuff” communities, etc. However, the Democrat that won the primaries (over a better-funded opportunist who would go along with more radical policies) is actually a decent human being and my ignorant of reality. I imagine he will not be the only person like that in DC.
Before we give up on the Republic, how ‘bout we allow republican processes to play out.
Even some of the liberal talking heads are getting alarmed. Bill Maher and others have spent much of the year telling their fellow liberals to tone it down, and have said that many of the leftist ideas are completely insane. Others have started to push back against cancel culture, and some have urged liberals to stop with the hatred of conservatives and try to mend fences. The far left, of course, has labeled these people traitors.
There's another threat that the left hasn't considered: The current generation that is coming of age, the kids aged 13 to about 21, have rebelled against the zeitgeist and have swung right. Many liberal millennial parents I know who had kids young are raging against their teenage kids for being Trump supporters. Kids from conservative families are more often going to trade and tech schools these days than college, so they're not getting indoctrinated, they're getting real world experience, and they're keeping to the values they're families taught them. The leftward slide may be slowing down.
