    MAT 49

One and a half years ago I had the opportunity to make a trade and got this French SMG, the MAT 49 (Manufacture d’Armes de Tulle 1949 model).

Every French war movies (post WW II) and any movie with «gendarmes» in it featured this SMG, so it’s been a long time fantasy of mine to own one.

    Folded, carry position

Stock at half position, for very close or hip / point shooting

Stock fully extended for firing from the shoulder

    Disassembly

    Some details

Magazine release and fore grip folding button

Flip up sight, 100 and 200 meters

    MAT 49

And bonus, it came with two pouches, 4 mags, the original oil bottle and the magazine loader

That’s how they would have been rigged (internet photo)

It did not come with the original sling, so a good old general purpose strap will do for now

Found two videos abt. this model.

Very nice! My first memory of the MAT-49 was in the 1973 movie 'The Day of the Jackal', where it's sprinkled throughout the movie. The Jackal gets killed by a MAT-49.

I’ve heard about this movie so many times, and yet I haven’t seen it so far, still can’t find it.

Plenty of them used in the movie "Lost Command" based on the book by Jean Larteguy (The Centurions) about a French Parachute unit in Indochina and later in Algeria!

OLIAR15, That looks great. Is that an amnesty registered Vietnam bring back? I see the star on the trigger which is what makes me think the commies had it at some point. What's the ballpark for how much these sell for?

I don't know of many ways other than Amnesty or Dewat?
It was still an active duty issued weapon for the French army so it couldn't have been a dewat as most of those were surplus stuff.

    Or pre86?
A pre 86 is the only other way it could have come in intact.

Just curious sometimes how they made it .

I believe in peace, love and extremely violent weapons systems... just in case that whole peace-and-love thing doesn't work out.
