    Yes, and maybe no.

If it produces Gamma Ray's, there are theories that Gamma Ray's can travel faster then light.

I recall those discussions only apply to mediums that are not a vacuum.

Its both. It will become one or the other once the light gets here... or is it neither?

Regarding planets in proximity to that star, well probably.

I think we may be jumping the gun with this prediction, but I'd love to be wrong and it would be fascinating to see. I remember how much I was floored by Hale Bopp and that would be nothing compared to seeing a star go supernova, especially one that isn't very, very nearby.

Right now the only sources claiming "could happen any day now" are Huffypo and a bunch of other unreliables. The serious science content website are saying "could happen anytime in the next million years."

So, am I supposed to stand here with my hands over my junk to protect them or something?
The Second Amendment ACKNOWLEDGES our right to own and bear arms that are in common use that can be used for lawful purposes. The arms can be restricted ONLY if subject to historical analogue from the founding era or is dangerous (unsafe) AND unusual.

    It's that simple.

It could also just be that a cosmic cloud is passing between us & the star... Not that I believe that, but just sayin - It's one of the possibilities.

Personally - I like to believe that we're going to see it blow some time in the next couple weeks to months, as that would just be... well... pretty fragging awesome I think!
