What exactly are you saying would cause the power plants to cease operation from a Corvid19 outbreak?

Something along the lines of 40 million dead and another 10 million suffering from various stages of organ failure might put the "let's expose ourselves by gathering in large groups to dig for more coal to keep city folks warm"- on the back burner. You know, the "unenlightened" people in flyover country that voted for Orange Man Bad whom are also the very same people who farm our food and provide the energy to keep the lights on. Some of them might have an epiphany, a "great awakening" if you will; "you know if we just sit this out for a few months, quarantine our communities for safety, then we'll never have to worry about another citidiot liberal taking over the country again". They'd be right also. All the depraved anti-American socialist university educated elite ideologies will die in the dark, afraid, cold and hungry. So prep for that because the country folk will be just fine being poor but well fed and warm without such enlightening ideals telling them how they think wrong. Time to move to the country.

Peak pandemic is estimated to be around June and run for a minimum of an additional six months barring re-infection rates. So if say 70% of the population in the lower 48 is infected at a rate of 6.1% deaths with care or 21.89% without care once the hospitals are over run- then expect some disruptions in public services. At minimum get yourself a few DIY rain barrels to tap into your down spouts and storage barrels to treat drinking water. Also perhaps get a few 55 gallon steel drums to burn trash in case they are no longer collecting. Figure you have till about the end of April to get ready.

I thought the post on the previous page was out there and then I read this, holy shit bro take a breath. Not everybody in farm country is 85 years old with pre-existing conditions. We won’t all die out and the people in the cities won’t starve. This has been raging for two months and we don’t even have 4000 people dead worldwide

Lack of workers, things don't just run forever, everything has to keep working the fuel delivery system, the power generation plant, the distribution system. Depending on he duration, a total blackout is not likely but brownouts, localized blackouts, extended times on repair work are likely after a few weeks of a major outbreak. Worst case scenario is a major weather event disrupting the distribution system, look at what a Hurricane can do with everyone being healthy.

Yeah I get that, and I am prepared for weather events and normal expected power outages. I just don't foresee the Corvid virus causing the power to go out.

If it gets so bad that there are not enough healthy individuals in the United States to keep the power grid up, we have completely reached Book of Eli / The Road level.

I posted where I got those numbers the other day but this thread is about "prepping" for a bio-engineered virus released to destroy the world markets and western civilization. So get your buckets, toilet paper, and canned goods ready for the "it's just the flu". Current projection is about 32 million infected in the US by the end of May and then 70% of the lower 48 population infected by July. Current death rate with care versus recovered pulled directly from the John Hopkins tracking map, 3,892 dead / 62,392 recovered = 6.23% death rate with care. See the whole "but 110K are infected and only 3,892 died so this only kills about 3.5%". Nope, 110K haven't recovered yet as only 62K are actually recovered with 3,892 dead. Divide those numbers into each other and you get the death rate of 6.2% with care or without care once the hospitals are over run- roughly 22%. So if 70% of the population is infected by July 1st; 330M x .70= 231M x .2189 critical care needed = 50.57M dead.

I've actually heard the opposite. Due to limited test kits and false diagnoses at hospitals, urgent care clinics, etc. the thought process is that there are probably exponentially more actual cases of Corvid19 than are known. So the reality is the fatality rate is most likely exponentially lower than the statistics are showing.

This is my thinking as well. Personally, I believe it's a lot more wide spread than suspected, particularly due to it being flu, cold, and allergy season. How many thousands of people are having minor, or even moderate, symptoms and just assume its a cold, flu, or allergies? Personally, I don't go to the doctor for that, which means I wouldn't be recorded, and would likely heal up on my own just fine without anyone being the wiser.

Isn’t that a bit heavy handed? There’s bound to be a lot of cross-over between the two. “There was a cluster of outbreak in my area, 17 people only 1 hour from here. Therefore I went to the store and picked up extra _______.” Will you at least discuss this with other mods and come to a consensus?

Well we can only use the numbers we know. Our first reported case was on January 21st, that was seven weeks ago. It's now in 40 states or more.
