Shouldn't the barrel have a larger outer diameter than regular Saiga's for this to work ?
(So that it could be machined to the correct profile)

Also, I guess the trigger group from KR-103 was re-used as well.

I have a Saiga 5.45 I got years ago and a basic AK-12 kit (no trigger group, no trunnion).

So I am wondering which way to go.

I saw someone selling demilled AK-12 trunnions with gas tubes attached. But I also read demilled trunnions cannot be re-used.

Finding a 22mm Bulgarian trunnion is not easy these days, so looks like converting a Saiga might be a good choice for me.
If the Saiga has a dimpled receiver I'd say you're all set. M-13 or CWG should have no problem welding the AK-12 gas tube to the Saiga trunnion.

If you wanted to get a more authentic barrel profile you can buy a US option. Go to akfiles and search for user obstreperous. He has chrome lined barrels for sale.

I'm confused. What do you mean by demilled trunnion? Front trunnions from parts kits are used all the time.

It seems the AK-12 kits are often obtained by cutting up blank firing guns or training guns with plugged barrels. As part of the conversion process the bolt and trunnion are modified so they can't be used with live ammo.

Here are the photos of demilled AK-12 trunnions. They cannot be used for a build.

Looks like all the AK12 kits in the US are made out of demilled training AK12 (ММГ СУ) and blank firing (СХП) they go from roughly $230 to $500 in Russia (if $1 = 100 Rubles). Their trunnions were modified so they cannot be used to fire live rounds. I heard some gunsmiths "fix" such demilled trunnions but it is very dangerous.

A semi-auto version of AK12 is TR3, but I have not seen a single kit made out of TR3 in the US yet (a TR3 goes for $800 - $900 in Russia). One needs to have a license to buy them there. ММГ and СХП do not need any license.

The one on the left is probably blank firing trunnion while the one on the right is demilled training. You can see how the left locking lug on it is milled away quite a bit and the chamber is plugged.

Thank you. Yes, it is dimpled.

I'll look for "obstreperous" (I had to look it up: "unruly or defiant").

Thanks for the explanation on the front trunnions being made useless. That's so sad.
