I say figure out your own level of risk based on your own priorities. Want to run an ELCAN? Go for it. Want to run a budget optic? More power to you. It's your money and time you spent earning it. Do what you want. Don't want to run an optic? Feel free.
I just try to remember that some people can easily put out thousands of dollars for name-brand optics. Others have to "eat ramen" just to save up for a <insert budget optic here>. Some can't even afford anything more than irons. To each his own. It's your stuff, run what you want.
Most of the guys I see using NCStar crap drive top-of-the-line Camaros or F250s. It baffles me, especially if its a duty weapon.
