Viper Gen ll 1-6 vs Trijicon Accupower 1-4

I've came across these 2 optics for around the same price. I was wondering if anyone has had hands-on with each and if one could offer some insight on the pros/cons of each. I would be using the optic more for close stuff than far. Thanks

I have experience with both. I ditched the Vortex for the Trijicon due to the weight and the Viper's dot was always too bright and bursty at dusk.

Viper Gen II
- Fantastic 1x (Aimpoint-like)
- Clear glass up to the 6x, minimal edge blurring
- Very heavy
- Red dot is too bright on setting 1 for anything other than daytime (not good for low light hunting, etc.)
- Magnification dial very stiff
- Made in Philippines

Trijicon
- Seems a little less flat on 1x, not quite as Aimpoint-like
- Lighter weight
- Built in throw "knob"
- Easier to roll magnification dial
- Finer crosshairs than the Viper
- In low light the brightness is low enough to use
- Made in Japan

If you need the 6x get the Viper. If you are doing more dynamic shooting where you need a bright red dot during daylight get the Viper.

If you want a lighter weight optic get the Trij. If you are doing more slow shooting like hunting get the Trij.

In addition to what Grizzlyblake said, I would add that the Viper PST Gen II has a bigger image. What I mean by that is that on 1x, the edges of the scope tend to disappear. Also, the Trijicon is not what I would call, "Daylight bright," while the Vortex is.

If I had to choose, I would take the Viper PST Gen II.

I've owned the PST Gen 1 & Gen 2 & Razor 1-6x. I've used the Accupower 1-4x on my friend's gun a few times.

Razor > Gen 2 PST > Accupower > PST Gen 1

Just personal preference but I like how the scope disappears from the shooter's view and has great eye relief on the Vortex scopes.

Can't tell diff between the Razor and Gen 2 PST if both are working. Razor is supposedly more durable and higher quality, but when both are working correctly, there is little difference past color of body.

6x is significantly more mag than 4x and I like the glass better on the Vortex optics, you can slightly tell the Razor is sharper

the PST Gen 1 had horrible glass and my eyes hurt looking through it. Sold that one after 2 range trips

no issues with seeing the red dot on the Razor & PST Gen 2 as they can be cranked up to ridiculously bright settings

I have the Vortex PST gen 2 on my Ruger Ranch rifle. It’s not what I intended it for but it pushed in to the roll, with that being said it has super clear glass picks up more light than I thought it would and the dot does just fine in low light and in a hunting role. Used it on that ranch rifle to take two hogs not more than a month ago, one of which was on the run.

I like the scope so much I want to get the 2-10 to put on my 16in mid length parts gun to have a cheap SPR.

That explains why Primary Arms is blowing the 1-4’s out for less than $500.

How would you compare the eye box and eye relief of the two? I would place a forgiving eye box at 1x ahead of illumination or edge blur. Thanks!
