    6.5 Grendel Upper?

    I want to get a AR15 upper for longer range shooting. Was thinking 6.5 Grendel. Is that the consensus here? Also, who makes a good 6.5 upper?

    If you want to stick with ar15 platform that is what I would go with.

    Decent ammo options and Wolf is available for cheap plinking if wanted.

    Other options would be 224valk or 6.8spc but I think the 6.5 g has the best staying power. 224v was hyped up but the support hasn't been there imo

    A larue tactical ultimate upper kit would be a good choice. You can get it assembled with everything else you need to build a new rifle ( lower parts, stock, buffer tube etc) except the stripped lower receiver for under $800

    SOLGW does 6.5g uppers as well

    On the cheaper end Aero and PSA have options but not the quality of above

    I have both the LaRue and Aero Precision uppers in 6.5 Grendel, and both are tack drivers. The LaRue has a nitrided barrel and the Aero is stainless. I bought the Aero Precision upper after ordering the LaRue and finding out it would be six months before it would ship because of a backlog of orders.

    6.5 Grendel is the most fun I've had shooting, loading, and building in a long time.

    With 6.5G if going for precision, I'd recommend finding a shop that has some specialization and experience with 6.5G, versus places that crank out lots of uppers in any caliber. Some top choices by reputation in no special order....

    * Alexander Arms
    * Larue Tactical
    * Precision Firearms

    Of the three, I preferred PF and recently had them build a 6.5 18" upper. They are definitely on the pricey side and using top notch barrels (mine has a Krieger) and components, but Mark knows how to put a precision rifle together.

    Finally got the LaRue upper. It did not want to fit on the Aero lower I had put together. It did, however, fit easily on a Colt lower that I had on another gun. I swapped them and everything is now good. Both had Geissele triggers, B5 stocks and Vltor A5 buffer and spring. I ordered a Nightforce NX8 and mags from Brownells, LaRue was back order on the mags. The BCM upper I swapped fit fine on the Aero lower. 3-5 days and I can shoot it.
