Could easily go either way. There haven't been a lot of films devoted to the Battle of the Atlantic because it just isn't as dynamic as storming the beaches of Normandy or Iwo Jima. And the best film on the subject was probably done by the other side with Das Boot.

The most interesting stories of course are the merchant Marine which began waging an undeclared war with German Uboats from 1939 until Germany's official declaration of war on the US in December of 1941. In 1940 the city of Miami refused to black out beachfront businesses in the fear it would harm tourism and German subs would wait until ships were perfectly silhouetted against the neon lights and pick them off with relative ease.

Miami residents and tourists would crowd the docks to watch the ships go down as if it was some kind of fireworks display. Be interesting to see somebody do a movie about THAT. To this day there are a lot of wrecks that can be dived, including a few u boats, from that era not very far out from the beaches.

This has potential. Looking at the preview, they got the weather and seas right for sure. The NE Atlantic is just plain a crappy place to sail.

There are soo many 20th century naval engagements / incidents that deserve proper movies:

    Hunt for the Bismarck

Battle of Leyte Gulf / Samar / Surigao Straight

    Jutland

2nd Russian Pacific Squadron / Tsushima (look on YouTube)

    River Platte

    Solomon’s / Guadalcanal

Has the potential for to much CGI but I will still watch it. Looks pretty good.

I thought they did a decent job with Midway CGI so hopefully this will be OK. I feel this is a good choice for a WWII movie, while not glamorous and flashy like the war in the Pacific the U-Boat war in the North Atlantic had to be fought and won before the fight could be taken to Germany and Hitler. Without the convoys getting to England their could be no D-Day and how brave did you have to be a civilian crew on a gasoline tanker in 42-43? Think about it, every drop of gas and oil to fuel the war effort had to run the U-Boat gauntlet.

I'd probably rather see decent CGI than T-6 trainers masquerading as Japanese Zeros.

Adapt Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors into a movie and call it a day. Especially if you can get Drachinifel (check him out on YouTube, snarky British naval history channel) to provide commentary. Going up against a battleship in a destroyer and not immediately loosing is great; doing it multiple times before going down is amazing.
...they should have seen that arms in their citizens' hands could not make them tyrants, but that evil orders of government make a city tyrannize. Since they had a good government, they did not have to fear their own arms.

I cannot think of a more selfless and heroic action than Taffy 3. Situations break bad all the time in war, but the amazing aggression turned a fiasco into a victory. I cannot imagine the fear those men managed to overcome to turn into the enemy and engage.
