Bushnell AR Optics 1-8 30mm LVPO with BTR-1 Reticle

I was out looking around for a scope to mount on a 308 hunting rifle, got side tracked and I noted that Bushnell had a 1-8 LVPO at $349.99 and there was also a 30% mail in rebate. I figured it would make a good range toy to play around with. I didn't see a lot of info out there about this so I wanted to post something in-case someone else is looking at it.

I mounted it in a *gasp* UTG Accu-Sync 30mm mount. It is a cheap mount that has decent reviews. Again, this isn't a duty setup. I zeroed it at 100 a few days ago but didn't have time to do anything further. I removed the LVPO optic and replaced my H2/LEAP.

Today I went back. My H2/LEAP returned to zero, no surprise there. What did surpise me was the UTG mount, it returned to zero when I remounted it. Cool.

I wanted to check to see how the bullet drop holds worked. I had a suspicion that they would not. The center dot is supposed to be 100, the next cross is 200, 300, 400, and finally 500. The 200 yard hold looked way off at 4.5-ish MOA. The 300 yard hold looked the same as it was 7.5-ish MOA. I was right. The holds are trash if you follow their directions. I was limited to a 300 yard range but the 200 and 300 holds were all impacting way too high.

Spent some time goofing around with a ballistic calculator to try and find a zero and bullet weight that would work with the holds. It looks like a 60gn VMAX pushed to 2650 fps should work with 50/200 zero. The center dot being 50/200, 300 being the first hold, followed down to 400, 500, and finishes with 550. It's all theory at this point but I do have half a box of 60 VMAX so I will give it a shot and see if it works out in real life.

    Update:
I loaded some 60 VMax behind 24.5 H335 and 23.2 H322. Both were educated guesstimates for 2650 fps. The H335 came in at 2704 fps and the H322 came in at 2607 fps.

    Re-zeroed at 50, confirmed 200.

At 300 the H322 shot on the money for the reticle, the H335 shot about two inches high.

I need to get a longer range to try the 400 and 500.

Looks like a 50/200 zero is way better for this reticle for your avg carbine use.

What did you think of the glass compared to other, “better” (meaning more $$$) brands you’ve seen? That’s the kind of price range I’d like to stay in: I’m not a “professional operator” either.

I haven't really been able to compare it to high end stuff. I would assume the largest draw backs are going to glass clarity at high magnifications and a smaller eye box.

For what I paid and what I am gonna use it for, I like it. I do wonder if the 1-4 or 1-6 versions might have better glass or larger eye boxes. I would assume the less the magnification the easier it is to make.
