Bet the voters might just see to that little problem once this kerfuffle is over.
Champaign is a bright blue island surrounded by red. It's a college town brimming with those of a marxist bent. The voters probably gleefully giggled with local government giving themselves the authority to be able to "redistribute" resources.

An electoral map of IL looks like a sea of red. Outside of Crook County (Chicago), you can pick out where the universities are from the islands of blue.

    Well really they are.

That is something that irritates me about praise getting heaped on past generations blessing us with liberty. Short of those that fought in the revolution, that really isn't true. Their kids didn't even lift a finger over Adams'/Federalist Alien and Sedition law which was an early start to this crap and could have been snuffed.

Because it hasn't happened yet. If the fear of the citizenry is going to truly be put in them, it needs to happen.
...they should have seen that arms in their citizens' hands could not make them tyrants, but that evil orders of government make a city tyrannize. Since they had a good government, they did not have to fear their own arms.

We left Champaign in 1983. Sadly, it appears that our current state of things in VA is headed the same way.

Ha! Before I got to the last page, I was ready to write almost the exact same thing. Champaign has always been a weird place, due entirely to the 40,000+ student university. The city can do what it wants. I guarantee that everywhere around it ignores them.

    Seizure of private property...including title.
    Hmmm....good luck with that.
If such were to come to fruition, you will see many peaceful law abiding mostly apathetic compliant citizens turn into ravenous violent killers of those that come to take private property no matter who they are.

Not to drag us off the topic of IL, but if your state is putting itself in a state of emergency you might want to read what it actually says.
This is an excerpt from the Florida State of Emergency declaration. Bold is mine.

appoints the Florida Director of Emergency Management as the State Coordinating Officer during the state of emergency with the power to suspend any statute, order, or rule that would hinder any mitigation, response, or recovery effort.

I think that is even more broad than Champagne's order and it affects the entire state.

You’d be amazed how many hard core, truly red folks are sprinkled throughout Champaign!!!! Less so in Urbana.

The cities cause the problems in IL, then they double down on stupid and send us politicians from the cities to make the problems statewide. Rinse and repeat. I realize this doesn't only apply to IL. Really sucks.
