I'm seeing a disturbing amount of people calling for "martial law" to help prevent the spread.

It's coming. When it finally becomes clear to people that social distancing isn't working, they'll demand more strict measures. San Fran is already implementing mandatory curfew and quarantines; other places will follow. Some people will just see this as justification to travel, to stick it to the man. Not all, but enough that the powers that be will point to them and claim they're responsible for all of the State's failings in regards to Corona. That'll justify even stricter measures, and we repeat the process. I guarantee that it won't take long after a mandatory quarantine is implemented that we start seeing gunfights at checkpoints and possibly attacks on LEO patrols. Already seeing a lot of "Boogaloo" folks talk about it.

They've literally given them an exemption, with the ask to "seek shelter", expect the fatality rate in that population to be 5-10X national average.

Gonna go with this. The federal law resulting from Katrina assigned no criminal penalties for violations, just that the victims could file lawsuits against the perpetrators. I think most state laws were similar.

When they start taking causualties while attempting to steal guns, they might start realizing the error of their ways. Probably not, but there's a better chance of that than expecting them to remember their oaths.
