The current Colt Defender (Officers' Size) has an alloy frame and is a sweetheart in 9mm. The .45 iteration is a real hammer in a small package, but not much fun to shoot.
The 9mm is a Goldilocks moment, and is current production.

But it has the worthless grip safety!
Nice pistols, they were ahead of the curve back in the day. Many of Stars and Astras guns were ahead of their time IMHO, before the ASPs and Detonics and S&W 669s and such. I still have two of them before switching to a Colt LWOM in the late 80s. Avoid dry firing them as its easy to break the firing pin, making a replacement is pretty easy as its a very simple design. Also the buffer system, replacements were hard to find for a while, I think someone is reproducing them but there is better solution. I followed flightsimmers instructions and it works like charm!
