Auto sales in the current climate

One thing I haven't heard mentioned much in the current coronavirus crisis is car sales. You would think that they have been impacted, but to what degree?

    Sales are down I’m sure.

Wait a few months and capitalize on it if you’re in the market for a new ride.

Since just about every manufacturer besides BMW has now shut down here I could see the opposite. Want a certain color and trim level? This is the only one in the region so we have it priced accordingly.

    Maybe, time will tell.

Once this idiocy blows over and factories get back up and running it will be interesting.

Unfortunately most people are just going to take it in the shorts being out of work, and that won’t be good for demand.

Totally in the tank from all I've read, and given local dealers' sudden interest in selling. I saw that Ford was providing 6 months free financing in some fashion - sign today and no payments for 6 months, not sure if interest is accumulating or what not.

I wouldn't want to buy any car made in the USA (regardless of brand) after about March 1, 2020, or in the first 1-2 months after production starts back up.

My previous career was auto sales and many of my friends are still in the industry. To say it's down is an understatement. It's tanked out. Sales, service, and all related industries are down. This is a great time to buy something new if you're in the market. The dealerships are looking to move metal and manufacturers are doing what they can with incentives.

When the entire country's industry is being shut down,
when 3/4 or more of the working population is about to be sitting at home and not working,
with the uncertainty or certainty that one is about to be laid off or one's employer might go under,
with the possible coming of a recession,
with the almost sure thing that the whole country is about to be told to shelter in place,

    Who would be car shopping?

Riots are like sports, it's better to watch it on TV at home.

OT: Vandal, would you mind if I picked your brain by DM? My aunt's fed up with the POS Astro my grandmother foisted off on her 15 years ago and with me being the last living man in the family and not a car guy, I'm looking for all the advice I can get for her from people I trust.

Sure. I've been away from it for 2.5 years but am still way too plugged in.

I am in auto sales. It's definitely down, but people are still coming out to buy. Kinda shocking.
