Armor Recommendations for larger men - Factory? or Custom?

    Yes I'm fat.

I'm looking to spend some coin on a well fitting set of armor. I've decided on BALCS or similar design (IIIA panels in conjunction with plates) rather than simple plate carrier design.

Money is not really an issue, comfort and effectiveness is.

Are there factory manufacturers that do well for larger men? Or is it more of a custom order?

    Recommendations on either front?

Depending on your size maybe an Eagle Industries CIRAS carrier

They fit soft BALCS and hard plates. There's a seller on eBay that has them for about $120 brand new. They also have the soft armor.

Regardless of size, armor is meant protect your vitals which are roughly the same for all, the carrier should be your main concern.

That's a very fair point and I perhaps misstated.

A plate was always going to be part of this setup, I do want broader IIIA protection on the sides rather than just underneath the plate. I also wanted to emphasis on wearability as a consideration.

I find traditional plate carriers to be uncomfortable and I'm hoping the BALCS format is an improvement. If not I'll live with it.

If there is another, more comfortable option than the BALCS that I'm not considering I'm all ears. I see ads on Facebook for some armor companies that cater to the civilian market but I'm a tad skeptical.
