Question on the Larue Ultimate kits

I read some here recommending the Larue Ultimate AR-15 Upper kit and I'm seriously thinking about getting one. This will fill the role of an extra Home defense rifle which will be topped off with a RDS. The way the hand guard attaches looks extra solid and it comes with the BCG, a great trigger and the rest of the lower parts for a good price and if I include the billet lower the total comes to $1000. I don't see much comments on the Tranquilo Brake. I don't plan to get a suppressor in the near future. Will it be too loud and would I be better off getting a regular flash hider?

Bottom line is are there any cons to buying the set?

    Thanks,
    Ray

The brake will be too loud and throw flash if you’re thinking home defense. Run a flash hider or if you do want a hybrid get a Surefire warcomp. I ran one of my carbines with one in a night time 2 gun match and there was no muzzle flash. It also has no noticeable extra concussion like some other hybrid muzzle devices and it works with Surefire suppressors too.

For home defense that brake is the last thing you want. My buddy has one on his 300 BLK upper and its pretty bad.

If you want the Larue kit, cause you just want a Larue gun I get it. I have some of their triggers, and just ordered a rail to finish another build I'm doing. On their website they didn't have any out of stock indicators, but once the order was processed its just showing 'backordered'. I sent an email and no response yet.

Hope your kit is in stock.

I had a comp on an old carbine of mine during the assault weapons ban. It was the Rock River Arms LE comp. I figured it wouldnt he too obnoxious if it was designed for law enforcement use. It was so bad it made my teeth hurt. This was on a 16 inch barrel.

I stick to A2 flash hiders. The only comp/brake I would consider using would be the BRT Covert Comp. This throws the blast forward rather than laterally.

I wouldn't use the brake for HD use. FH or Forward Controls 6315.

I believe you can get one of their cans for $399 when you buy the kit. Obviously have a wait, but not a bad deal

I love my LaRue kit rifle, Tranquilo brake was never installed, though.

For an HD rifle, if you aren't suppressed, I'd either get something that 'throws' the sound and flash forward -

https://bkingsfirearms.com/shop/gas-...ine-flash-can/ (cheap copy that works fine - I have several)

or got with a three tine flash hider that kills flash - the JP below is one of the best, I like it because it has a shroud which goes over the barrel and is predrilled for pin and weld: and weld

but, LaRue has a flashhider listed on their site, that IIRC, ranks better than the JP for flah reduction - might as well chuck it on your order:

    Hope this helps.

If you are thinking about getting a suppressor in the future, you might be ahead of the game to decide which one now and get a compatible muzzle device.

Agreed - that is my go-to flash hider. No annoying ping and it's exceptional and reducing muzzle flash in the darkness.

Almost as good and about a third of the price: https://www.cdnnsports.com/ar15-223-...emium-aac.html

LaRue UU are one of the best deals going right now. $800 gets you everything you need but a lower receiver (including the excellent LaRue trigger). If you want an all Larue rifle I would definitely get the receiver for $200 as well, since it's the only way you can buy a stand alone receiver.

However, IMHO as long as the receiver is in spec., it doesn't make a whole lot of difference what receiver you use and there are a lot cheaper receivers out there. Spikes or Aeroprecision are very good choices, will work just as well as the LaRue receiver and can be purchased for a lot less.

Which is better the Vortex A2 or A3 except for the visual look?
