Drone thoughts. (Week 2 of one flying over our shooting spot)

This weekend we had what looks like the same white drone fly directly over our shooting spot at about 100-150 yds altitude.

The property on which we shoot is restricted access, and the guy who oversees the land didn't know why/who would be flying a drone over. We drive over a mile onto the land, so whomever is flying this thing has a model with a significant range. It also covered the terrain at a pretty good pace.

I don't know much about drones. My ghetto side says to shoot it down, but Pappabear is worried the cops would be waiting for us at the gate. Any thoughts?

I think this is very state dependent and relatively fluid so I would be careful. I’ve heard of people getting in trouble for destroying them, but there are other laws restricting use so it’s hard to say.

I believe the DJI Magic Pros can do about a mile in ideal conditions. My buddy has awesome footage overhead of whales from a beach on Oahu so they definitely have some capability.

I would def read up on the laws for your state before you shoot anything down. I am not 100% sure but i think if it is below a certain height in certain states it may be fair game, but that can be hard to tell.

If you know any smart drone people there may be a way mess with the signal and make it wreck/land

There was a post about a similar topic on the hide in one of the sub forums and nobody could seem to agree on what is legal/not legal

I don't know much about drones but a lot about photography. I can photograph any subject I want from my personal or public property but I cannot use the camera to invade your privacy. I can take a picture of the fence around your pool from ground level but not the babes around the pool from my second story balcony. If it is flying as high as you think it is probably legal if it isn't invading your privacy. There are commercial drones with 5 miles of range but they are not being controlled by the pilot that far out. They are flying waypoint to waypoint. In Az I wouldn't be surprised if an alphabet agency were running it.

The FAA takes a dim view of anyone shooting at aircraft, manned or unmanned. Exposing yourself to a drone is probably still legal, though...
