As someone else mentioned, how effective would Fed-Ex, DHL, or UPS be if they had to service every address in America, everyday?

Not saying that USPS service is stellar, but I don't feel UPS and FedEx are tasked to do what the USPS does.

Got to admit, though, I've sure received a lot of AR500 plates and bulk bullets in USPS Flat Rate Boxes.

The USPS should just die already. Amazon and UPS come to my house almost every day anyway...They can just bring my junk mail too. It'd be cheaper, more efficient, and I'd get less of my neighbors stuff.

OH58D doesn’t get his mail delivered. What do you mean by “service every address in America” just curious?

How much is it to send a regular letter through UPS from Brooklyn NY to Los Angeles?

I'm pretty sure you know what I meant. The post office delivers to more individuals on a daily basis than UPS, et al.

I've lived in several rural/small town locations and had to go to the post office to get my mail, but pretty near all Americans get home delivery, delivery to a mail box on a rural route, or a cluster of boxes at an apartment complex.

I'll hazard a wild guess that USPS goes to more locations in a single day than UPS, DHL, FedEx, and Amazon combined. I'm just not sure it's a fair comparison to like USPS to any other carrier, it's really not the same service being provided.

Anyone every try to file an insurance claim for a lost package with them? I have. I use to sell a bit through Ebay and lost quite a few packages through the USPS. Have yet to receive one claim payout. Bunch of BS.

Our area uses contractors to deliver the mail. Drive old beat-up equipment and wear a T shirt and tennis shoes. Just as reliable as the uniformed lifers who enjoy a life-long career with benefits and pension being a glorified paperboy. Maybe that's the problem...

The biggest subsidy is being a government-protected monopoly.

I have filed 2 that I can remember, probably others.

One was denied until I pushed it up 3 levels to the postmaster generals office. They said "it was delivered" and I had to get a notarized affidavit from the receiver stating they got a piece of a box with a label...but nothing else. So the shipping label was delivered LOL. The receiver even pestered their local postmaster because they knew it was bull shit and we both were getting the run-around. It was a 500 dollar item so I paid extra for extra insurance. The insurance paid out in the end. A month later the item showed up at the guys shop LOL... It was a 40lb Jeep steering box... not easy to lose.

The second was a box with 1200 pieces of 5.56 brass. The guy got an empty box except for some kids coloring books. It wasnt even taped back up, the whole side was missing. He sent me pictures, I submitted them with the claim and they paid it no questions asked. Nobody knows where the 1200 pieces of 5.56 brass went... I hope some asshole had to spend HOURS cleaning it out of some sorting machine LOL.

That is basically a universal issue with any carrier from UPS/FEDEX up to big time trucking companies. A former employer used to keep several employees busy trying to get reimbursed for damaged/lost items.
