    5G Discussion

5G is getting a lot of attention, much of it from tin foil hat types of course who are convinced it will cook you from the outside in, mind control, yada yada. The best conspiracy theories often have a grain of truth to them, and 5G has that kernel.

Not my lane, but people like Brig. Gen. Robert S. Spalding feel there's a security and privacy risk to 5G, and that would surprise me at all:

Health concerns seem to be where things really go off the rails. There's even claims that 5G created covid, or any number of combinations there of. Having said that, it's interesting to note that there are legit sci/med types are concerned over what's very outdated research into this issue, and are calling new research, and from what I'm reading, that aspect seems legit:

    Via Scientific American

We Have No Reason to Believe 5G Is Safe

And a good write up that concludes likely safe, but the truth is, it's simply an unknown:

    https://www.livescience.com/65959-5g-network.html

Those are not tin foil hat infowars sources, so I feel that it's not something to dismiss out of hand due to the tin foil crew jumping on it.

Maybe it turns frogs gay too?

Look, I don’t know if it created COVID or not but being constantly enveloped in various frequencies of EM waves both natural and artificially generated can’t be good for you in the long run, can it?

It got so bad even Space.com had to put out an article saying 5G doesn't spread Covid-19.

No. Your router is a 5GHz/2.4GHz router

Why would it be bad? Just because people don’t understand something doesn’t make it bad for you.

Via Via Scientific American posted above, there may be some valid reasons for concern that suggests more data is warranted, but the tin foil hat freak out claims we are seeing are unproven unsupported nonsense of course.

I do agree there's some unknowns that should be answered at least.

The biggest thing about 5G that scares me is that most countries and companies are happy with having Huawei build their networks and equipment.

We don't fully know the extent to which life long exposure to various frequencies of EM hurts us. Cell phones have "only" been around since 1983. We know that more energetic EM waves can hurt us in a very short period of time, right? Gamma, X-Rays and UV. How can we be sure that prolonged exposure to less energetic waved in the EM spectrum won't? I understand the amplitude is pretty low but over the course of 70 years is there really no effect at all? I also understand that microwaves don't effect tissue and DNA like Gamma for instance, but again, over the course of an average human lifetime it may have an effect. All I am saying is that we just don't have the information yet.

I saw the Scientific American article. Hadn’t heard any of that prior.

What gets me is the Huawei connection. Chinese involvement in 5G and cell phones in general is what sent me down the rabbit hole and forced me to step back from a more laissez-fairy libertarian approach to trade.
