Exactly. Given the questionable "immunity" and the certainly questionable length of it, this is a PIA that can occasionally kill and we're gonna have to deal with going forward. Shutting stuff down is waaaay past being even a possible option. The genie is out of the bottle. My place is using Remdesivir on in-patients (if they consent) and while admissions for the COVID beds exceed the March/April timeframe, less are going to the ICU and they are generally younger. Getting a better handle on treating it, as opposed to a "cure" or vaccine, is going to be the way to succeed against this thing.
That immunity thing, or significant lack thereof, is troubling. If I didn't know better, I'd swear it was almost designed like that. Meh, what do I know?

I went and got tested for COVID three weeks ago tomorrow as a precaution before traveling (drove) to see my parents for the first time since the pandemic hit as my dad is going through active liver cancer treatment he was diagnosed with the day after thanksgiving last fall. I also got tested for the antibodies.
I was curious about the antibody test because I have been convinced I had it back in February. My symptoms, while not the most severe, fit including loss of taste and smell for nearly three weeks. Initially I thought I was too early in the cycle but based on the newer information that it was here as early as December and considering my travels to northern CA and Seattle for work before I got sick, well...
Anyway, I tested negative for both. My Dr. was extremely detailed in reviewing my symptoms with me and he said he is more than certain I had it. He was not at all surprised I didn’t have the antibodies. They have started to see patients who were ill and tested positive in March coming back sick with it again. He said they have seen the antibodies disappear in as little as one month, let alone four for me.
I don’t know. That just what he told me. While I mostly feel fine and am working out again, I’m still struggling with chronic fatigue from time to time which is weird. I’m sure some of it is the stress from my job with all this but I wonder. Based on what my doctor told me, this herd immunity thing is not something I’m personally counting on.

An Ohio employer called into Cunningham's show the other day. Employees went to a testing site, filled out the paperwork, but it was taking so much time they left without getting tested. Two days later the employees were contacted that they tested positive. Anecdotal story... but the volume of reported incompetence and manipulation has got to the point where these type of stories are becoming more beleiveable than not.
Perhaps the original protocols for testing were best.
Fever and other symptoms?
Young and otherwise heathy = Stay home.
Elderly high-risk = Get tested.
Chasing the asymptomatic boogeyman appears to be more problem than solution, and a major driver of unwarranted hysteria.
For what it's worth, at least three of my employees have been tested negative so far, so not all tests come back positive. They are the only ones who have been tested and gotten results. I strongly suspect one of my managers is going to have a positive result come back, and I am the last person he interacted with at work. Sigh...

There appears a variety off pre existing meds and others that may be of benefits. Trial underway right now to see if the Heartburn Drug Famotidine, histamine antagonist, is of value.
