    ? on military uniform

Yesterday, visiting Ft Meade commissary & of course the class 6 store. All branches of the service, instead of a face mask, wearing a neck & face covering, what I would call a olive drab bandana, I am sure the military uses another name, therefore the question, what is the military name?

They would pull it up from the neck, to cover their mouth & face when entering any building.

Ours was a balaclava we called "3-ways" because you could wear it as a neck gaiter, a traditional balaclava, or as a 'watch cap.'

Basically, this, but OD and wool:

I've been getting a lot of mileage out of my OD shemagh.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

There used to be olive drab cravats used for arm slings, etc. Those got used for head rags, face coverings, you name it.
Not high speed, low drag. More like ten under, blinker on.

I'm not a huge fan of the gaiter for a face cover because it crushes my nose. Good neck warmer though.

I'm 99.99% positive those have been used more frequently for the above reasons than for first aid.

As a corpsman, I never once used it in a medical capacity. Like duct tape, those things had a hundred uses....
