Straw man #1: Not 300 million, just the fraction that won’t wear a mask. Most people wear a mask at indoor public places. You can’t always know if your are a carrier.
1.4% means that a few people in the Kroger’s have it.
A mask isn’t perfect but even the linked article it reduces the viral load, provides inbound filtering and keeps people from touching their face with contaminated hands. This is a game of base hits, not home runs. It sure ain’t hurting.
Straw man#2: Your aids example is pretty weak. About the only thing you have right is ‘virus’.

This current story resonated with me - basically a huge number of workers got sick, but from what I can tell, the plant did not close. My takeaway is (1) infection rates are going to vary dramatically by locality and (2) asymptomatic/well-enough people are going to spread readily. This makes me pretty tolerant of masks, but I always thought the Japanese way of personal responsibility and mask wear as smart. I would bet some folks disagree with that (except they’ve done relatively well in COVID).
“ More than 700 employees at a Tyson Foods meat factory in Perry, Iowa, have tested positive for the coronavirus as the nation braces for a possible meat shortage due to the pandemic.
An Iowa Department of Public Health report released Tuesday showed that 58 percent of the factory's workforce had tested positive for the virus, NBC affiliate WHO of Des Moines reported. Authorities said late last week that nearly 900 workers were confirmed to have the virus at a Tyson Foods plant in Indiana.“

The fact that all of the above have stemmed, in part, from quarantine/social distancing enforcement. I have no problem with using common sense and wearing a mask in public. I have no problem with both public and private buildings having "no mask=no entry" policies. It's the "shut the f*ck up and obey" attitude that many government officials have about wearing masks, among other quarantine ordinances, that is the problem. That some cities have passed rules that nobody is even allowed in their yards without a mask, and fines and jail time is the consequence, is a serious concern.

Wait a minute. Nobody is advocating going around "spewing" anything.
If you have symptoms, like a cough you should stay home, not just put a little minimally effective cloth over your face.
Lastly, as the study above shows and many of us already suspected, the outside of your mask is contaminated. The part I see most of you in the store touching all the time to adjust your mask.

No doubt it’s being politicized but that doesn’t change the fact that people should be taking the basic precautions out of respect for your fellow man.
Just because there are moron politicians abusing their power and using the shut up and obey attitude doesn’t mean we should react by going out and licking door knobs to own the libs. It’s okay to condemn those actions and still wear a mask to try and limit public spread.
