I was trying to learn on my own to do something in order to gain some experience/knowledge. I have since done some more research and will be using a low profile block and 12" guard. Thanks rushca for that HELPFUL info. I didn't know so many people were/are instant experts and never built anything incorrectly.

    As others have said it's a good idea to avoid aluminum gas blocks altogether. Here are some photos I took several years ago of a barrel that was damaged from using a cheap aluminum block.
    In heavenly love abiding, no change my heart shall fear;
    and safe is such confiding, for nothing changes here:
    the storm may roar without me, my heart may low be laid;
    but God is round about me, and can I be dismayed?

    For my "Bargain Bin" gun, I went to a better bin. AT3Tactical 12", M-Lok, Spear rail and a Steel, low-profile block.
