    Unusual Lake City brass

Saw this in a reloading group. Any ideas on what is going on or what it is?

I've seen cases dented like during resizing if too much case lube was used.

Me too, including recently after getting back in to reloading after a decade plus break. Never seen a lube dent annular like that and figure multiples would be lightning strike/lottery win odds.

While those may have came from a container of once fired brass, I really can't figure a way those could have been fired. Seems to me a chamber imperfection like that would have been all but guaranteed to lock the empty in the chamber.

What caliber are they? First thing I would suspect is MG fired with a worn out barrel.

    Asked on the caliber.

    Found this:

That shows brass with rings, but doesn't seem as pronounced as the pieces in the pic.

That appears to be machine gun fired brass with excessive headspace to me.

Either machine gun fired, or some oddball/mis-cut chamber rifle.
