Even so, it looks like the problem was a procedural one of missing a deadline, not a judgment on whether this particular deputy did his job or not. Maybe if he gets his job back, he'll have a chance to (for lack if a better word) redeem himself and restore his and the department's reputation?
Nobody called law enforcement overall cowards. However, the initial Deputies that showed up on scene or the SRO hiding in the shadows sucking his thumb were certainly so. Coral Springs PD and others responding in certainly proved LEOs are capable and very well should run to the gunfire. That's what they get paid to do. They are heroes for it. That SRO was a coward, plain and simple. He was in the school, could have helped as a minimum evacuate others, but chose to hide. He deserved to get fired because he didn't even fulfill the basic tenant of what an SRO is supposed to be according to the DOJ. "Sworn law enforcement officer responsible for safety and crime prevention in schools." The responding Deputy was rightfully fired for hiding behind his patrol car.

If a mass shooting isn't a crime in your world, I don't know what is.

To counter your point. If LEOs aren't there to "sacrifice" themselves, why is it expected of firefighters? Do they not run to the danger and put their lives at risk to rescue people? Are they not generally paid the same as officers? What sets them apart?

If an LEO is unwilling to run to the gunfire especially when children are being slaughtered, they damn well should find another line of work. If a Sheriff's first actions in the wake of a mass shooting like this is to run to the cameras and vomit a political point, he doesn't deserve to be a Sheriff. Maybe he should have cleaned house in his department rather than running to CNN for a town hall meeting on gun control.

Eff Scott Israel. Eff Scot Peterson. Eff Brian Miller. Eff Robert Runcie. Eff Rick Scott. Nobody on the Broward County School Board should ever be reelected either.

People are asking the school resource officer and the other deputies to trade their lives for the lives of children of strangers. The officers on the scene had no idea how many shooters there were, where they were, how they were armed, did they have hostages. For all they knew, running into the school meant a high risk of death. That's not what they signed up for, and the public can't be monday morning quarterbacks here.
As a 30 year cop, patrol, school resource, CID, SWAT, and admin that is what the job should be. In this case you are just wrong. Just like the guys 1168 referenced in the military. I can remember many crying and doing anything to get out of deploying to Iraq. I knew that was why I joined. Same as law enforcement. I joined to make a difference and if the opportunity is there to save lives, what is more important than that? You're just wrong.

I've chased, caught, fought with every type of criminal and continued to do it even after shit flying past my head. Where would we be if all of of the police, fire, military failed like this? You took a job, knowing that you more than likely will be faced with danger and have to saddle up and ride in. Of course you aren't reckless but it is what it is.

Dude, if someone doesn’t think that protecting a bunch of sitting duck kids lives are worth the potential to lose their own lives, then they need to hang that gun belt (wtf do they think its for?) up BEFORE literally getting paid to do do so. Shouldn’t be cops, definitely shouldn’t be SRO’s. Its not like there’s not duds in most departments, but lets not defend them.

If my cops talked like yours do, I’d be moving and switching agencies.

Perhaps the Broward 911 call center should have a recorded message:

For the safety of our officers, if this is an active shooter situation please call back when the shooter(s) have ran out of ammo or departed the scene. Have a nice day.

In the past I've posted snippets from the GA School Resource Officer job description. It's exactly what they signed up for.

I wouldn't have been adverse to one of the other Cops handcuffing this Muppet and forcing him at gun point in to the building.
Everyone that cashes that check even if they are a chicken shi+ has a purpose, maybe his purpose needed to be to draw fire and act like a human shield.

Any police officer who is unwilling to lay down their life for even a single stranger should turn in their badge.

He's probably either already eligible or close to retirement. I would almost bet its all about getting his pension and benefits.

I have been blessed to work with the finest officer you could ever hope too. With 1 exception,
I never saw a coward in either country. In Israel everyone in my unit was a hard charger and lived to kill terrorist, you might say it was personal.
