    Help Consolidating Optics

I currently use ACOG (3.5x35 LED) and Trijicon Accupower 1-4.

I’m proficient with both and prefer to have magnification due to astigmatism.

I’d like to consolidate optics and keep it to one type. I like what they both have to offer in regards to magnification, glass clarity, robustness, and weight. I need to get it to one optic type so I can maintain my shooting and proficiency without switching back and forth between 2 different optics.

    Thoughts?

In a general sense, I believe a quality LPVO with a 1x low end is more versatile and useful over a wider range of needs than an ACOG (or a RDS).

Not sure I'd choose an Accupower 1-4x as my 'one LPVO', but they are a good general use optic (owned one for a year).

ACOGs are nice for what I see them to be (robust, lightweight, and nearly soldier proof for primary use from 50 yards and beyond).

Please expand upon this. I have no skin in this manufacturer vs. that one vs. my fave etc... I am generally curios. Thank you!

I'm not Rhino, but my 1-4 Accupower has a reticle that is neither bright nor bold enough to pick up quickly in bright light, be it sunny day or weapon light. I have the MOA Crosshair, for what it is worth.

I think it's also safe to say that the trend is towards optics with a 6 or 8X top end (or more).

Exactly right. The Accupower 1-4 has great glass, good durability and weight, but the lack of illumination and 'meh' reticles left me wanting more. I sold mine and moved to a Vortex PST Gen 2 1-6x24, while being a bit heavier had a better reticle and illumination. So in the $500-800 price range, I would choose the PST 1-6x as my LPVO of choice.

But my personal choice for a 'one' optic would be the NF NX-8 1-8x. I have one and am in the process of getting a second. It has trade offs (like all optics do) but it works great for me. Obviously they run in the $1500-1700ish price range, depending what discounts you can get.

The LPVO is the way of the future. However, the 1-4 is getting a little long in the tooth. As mentioned above, the 1-6 or 1-8 is probably a good change for your situation.

If you're OK buying used, check us out.

David Jinks. Same David Jinks from before?
I am in the same boat. I have the same ACOG and was thinking about whether or not the 1-6 Credo would be better. I am leaning toward keeping the ACOG. In my situation, I am using this optic for an 18 inch DMR. I really do not see using it much past 300-400 yards in reality. If I need to go further than that, I am switching to the .308 bolt gun. The 5.56 gets anemic past 300.
Also have the astigmatism so where I was using a red dot, I now use the PA Cyclops 1x Prism optic. It is perfect.
