Grey Guns guide rods for the Sig 226 guns ?

I use a Grey Guns guide rod in my Sig Legion X5 and have liked it. I see where they also make them for the 226 variety and was considering trying one in one of my 226's.

Anyone with experience with their 226 guns and if so, which spring did you go with? Are they also using 1911 springs as well?

    Any feedback appreciated.

I only have one P226 not marked "Made in W. Germany" and it's an early P226 tactical. Never really used non factory parts in any of them but Grey Guns has a solid rep when it comes to SIGs.

Why did you feel you had to replace the guide rod on a Sig Legion X5? I thought Legions were supposed to be top tier of what Sig has to offer these days.

Its been so long I am not 100% sure. But I think it was beefier and heavier taking a little pop out of recoil. But it still uses 1911 springs so I think that was it. Its not a captured system some people dont like because they can't tune their springs.

I have one in my 226 Legion, not sure it makes any difference.
They take 226 recoil springs, GGI has pink stiffer ones if you are always shooting max power loads.
I just use the stock 226 spring and shoot quite a bit of 9mm NATO and the Winchester 115 gr duty ammo that's a bit spicy with no issues.

My preference would be to shoot lighter springs with my standard 9mm loads to reduce felt recoil, but doubt it would make much difference.

    Thanks for the input guys.

PB, the Grey Guns guide rod doesn't get you any advantage in a 226 Legion because the Legion already has a solid guide rod. The standard 226's guide rod is hollow.

Wolf has different weight recoil springs if you want to go that route.
Of all the stuff I've fiddled with I never felt the need to install a solid rod in all of my other Sigs.

If ya just gotta spend some money with GGI I would go with a strut kit.
A little more than the Sig Armorer Superstrut but it comes with a base, a couple of main springs, 18 and 19# I believe and a sear spring.
I used the 19#, didn't mess with the sear spring.

Much smoother DA pull, the mainspring compresses in a straight line, doesn't rub on the strut or get bound up on one side.

I did put the ELS trigger in everything that would take it, I have three versions.
They have a new curved trigger now, same profile as the PSAIT if you don't like straight triggers.

But do these do anything for the Legion series as you mentioned earlier. The triggers on my 226's are very impressive to me, both DA/SA and SAO.

SIG DA/SA triggers are probably the best triggers of any DA/SA handgun I've ever used. I'd never mess with them. There are some guns out there with a better trigger SIG P49, HK P7, Series 70 1911s and the like but the SIG trigger is what has kept me mostly carrying a P226 since the first one I got in 1985.
