Russian ammo in general seems to exhibit a lot of muzzle flash. Anyone know of a brand or load of 7.62x39 that has reduced flash?

Yes!
Hornady with the SST bullet!
At least it used to be. Probably still is. I tested it for that probably 10-15 years ago. Definitely the ammo to use for serious purposes.
Thank you very much! I'll check out the Hornady SST.
I'm curious what the difference is in the powder. There are only three possibilities I can imagine: Hornady is using a flash suppressant in the powder, using a faster burning powder, or both.
I've noticed significantly less flash using .300blk compared to 7.62x39, and that's in the daytime. I also remember a night match where I started with XM193 and ended using some Barnaul .223 through a 5.56 AK: the Russian ammo put out a large enough flash to screw up my dark adjusted eyesight.
