Back to the phone charger topic:

Wife and I building a new home and we are going to install a few Leviton USB-C outlets with PD technology. Their country of origin says "contact customer service" so I did. The guy said "assembled in USA from globally sourced parts" or something along those lines. The other outlets that are not PD(power delivery) all say "made in China". The guy had no other information on "globally sourced" except him and I felt like the chips inside for the USB functionality are probably Chinese sourced. BUT I will take "assembled in USA" as a start I guess...

i bought some new Oakley's a few months ago and the Oakley store had a cabinet that was all "assembled in USA" or "built in USA" something like that. Again, most of the parts are probably coming from China, but I will take Assembled in USA as a starting point. He said a lot of people gravitate to that cabinet first, which only had maybe 10 styles in it vs. 1000 styles in the rest of the store. He said they are always reporting that kind of stuff to corporate with the hope that more and more will be brought back.

If the American people even 50% said no more imports from China, that would create opportunity for people to fill. I am not involved with electronic manufacturing, but I do know one of the top exports from the Dominican Republic is medical equipment. I happen to be friends with the 2 guys building the next free trade zone in the DR, so if anyone wants to jump I will assist.

I have a software company and I developed a cloud-based ERP that deals mostly with wholesale and distribution. We work with many verticals including medical, chemical, textiles and food products.

Many of my customers manufacture in China and I can tell you the demand for a manufacturing module so that they can move back to the U.S. has been beyond enormous. A couple of weeks ago I greenlit it with my development staff and these customers are already gearing up to moving stateside. They have had enough of not just the consumer backlash, but also seem to feel complicit in the current situation as well as realizing they are not as in control of their product as they thought.

I've heard more than one story of their Chinese plants unable to meet deadlines because they shift their manufacturing capacity to meet Chinese demand first. Mostly with medical and chemical, which is very concerning.

What's most interesting is that I have spoken to a number of them and analyzing that the reason they moved to Chinese production was the perception of lower cost. After running the numbers they are finding that the cost isn't so much lower any longer. Maybe 20 years ago it was, but no longer.

For our part, we made a decision to provide new customers with the software for free long enough for them to start working. I hope this trend continues and more and more businesses see the light.

    F**k China.

China needs to pay a price for what they have done.

Congress is too dysfunctional to get anything done. This needs to be handled at the consumer level.

I applaud any business, manufacturer, that is helping make this happen. Keep up the good work. Put Americans back to work. Buy American.

Quite a few consumer electronics OEMs are shifting manufacturing to Southeast Asia. So, if you don’t mind “Made in (Communist) Vietnam“, then that’ll become more prevalent for things like chargers, keyboards, mice, etc.

Could we start a thread & get it stickied for folks to list or ask others about made in the USA products, their manufacturers, and retailers where these American made products are available?

Like "The Official Where Can I Get It" thread?

First of all, can you give an example of a state imposed financial penalty?

While the Boycott-Divest-Sanction movement is not going to gain a lot of traction with the majority of Americans, I don't think it is illegal anywhere in the U.S. to advocate for the movement.

This reminds me of the South Park episode where the residents boycotts a store because they get too big and corrupt then moves to support the local store which also then gets big and they boycott them, and so on and so on. This will just keep happening over and over.

I don't believe (can't be sure) that I've bought a Made in Israel product in the last two years and nobody has come to get me. So yeah, pretty damn sure there is no law in the US that prevents you from NOT buying a product of Israel.

The problem is we need to be willing to spend more and people will buy ANYTHING on Amazon if it's .10 cents cheaper than everywhere else. I would love for electronics production to move back to Japan and most of our imports to come from there, but probably never gonna happen. DVD players would be $200 again and now they are $40 on Amazon.

Hell at this point I'd be happy with Taiwanese imports again.
