Part of me wonders if this is a dig at Lucas since everyone is jumping on that right now.

I like Garand's also, and they make sense where I live.

    I really dont get it.
People buy a fast car or hummer, no one bats an eye.
Do the analogous with gun stuff and people lose their minds.

Maybe people just like to buy stuff?

At the end of the day this is where I arrive. While I'll make fun of gold plated desert eagles and such, if it's your money and that's what makes you happy do whatever. The dumbest guns and gear in the world are still better than money spent on shit like vaping, so many tattoos you look like a banger and lots of things that are a hundred times worse.

I'm just not completely comfortable shooting live ammo near LARP's because they tend to approach firearms from a video game mentality and things like the four basic rules of gun safety sometimes conflict with their gamer fantasies.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

    Chuck, we miss ya man.

With guns, enthusiasm for gear goes against the ethos of hardcore shooters. The answer, to them, is always, always, ALWAYS more training. Nobody wants to admit that sometimes, the answer IS technology. If you want prepare for a SHTF scenario, I say do some research, and get gear that will aid you in the shitstorm, and good quality gear at that.

I look at people who collect and build clones the same way as I do those who like motorcycles or cars and has all the accessories to work on them, it's a cool hobby, one that I've gone down briefly before I abandoned it.

I do, however, have a problem with people who play subject matter expert when in all reality they should be considered subject matter enthusiasts. If I get on the range, am lucky enough to get a bay to myself, and I have a specific goal I'm working on, if a dude comes up to me in flannel and a bid ole beard and on his first reload, he flips the mag 20 feet to the right, I usually ask them to leave.

As for Lucas Botkin, can't stand him or his sycophants. I'll give him this, he can shoot, but I'm hesitant to take advice from someone who I assume would have a problem cranking out a single pullup.

I've seen a couple of this Lucas Botkin's vids but never much paid attention to the name, just another guy with something to say on the tube. Been listening to Rob Leatham vids lately. Does this Lucas fellow have a bad rep or something?

I think I know where he was attempting to go with the article, and that is another "Mission drives the gear train" article that we've all read 1000 times. I certainly agree that our mission should drive our gear train, but that drum has been all but beat to death. He also hit on the fact that you can't just buy gear and you have to train with it, which is a Capt Obvious type statement and has been beaten nearly to death as well.

What SF uses and what you or I should use for our given task may not be the same thing. Or it might be perfect, I don't know. As I've gotten older, I've settled into guns and gear that are very practical for me and my life.

I could understand what he was saying about the proliferation of LPVOs. In a world now filled with them, sometimes I feel like that guy still wearing a Member's Only jacket because I'm still running Aimpoint micros on everything. While the magnification for taking a long shot is a huge plus, the big advantage in my opinion to an LVPO is being able to PID something at distance. That advantage comes at a weight penalty. The solution to that for me is an Aimpoint magnifier in a qd mount that I can store in my backpack and use as needed. It can also be used off the gun like a monocular, in fact I used mine like that yesterday. Is the Aimpoint micro and magnifier combo lighter than a LPVO? Probably not, but with the magnifier being in a qd mount it can be stored in a backpack while not in use rather than adding weight to the slung carbine hanging off my neck. It certainly isn't much cheaper. I have no doubts that there are many who the LPVO is the right choice for them and their lifestyle and location.

While I do think there are a bunch of dudes out there buying gear to look cool and get likes in private Facebook groups, I don't have an issue with it. It's their money and it's much better than spending that money on crack cocaine or something. I want people to buy LPVOs and NODS and $2000 ballistic helmets and plate carriers if that's what makes them happy even if they live in Mr. Rogers neighborhood and probably won't need it. I'm never gonna advocate for people only buying what they can justify a need for to strangers online. This is America, we can do what we want, kinda.

Mission ? Unless its just enjoying my day and getting home to have a splendid meal with my wife, exercise, read, watch a movie, I don't really have a specific 'mission' other than coming home after work. I'm just Joe citizen who enjoys shooting, weekly or every two weeks, when get to the range. I do take 3-4 classes/ year because they're fun and obviously to learn & practice; shooting is a perishable skill after all. My 'equipment' is simple, a basic Glock19 w/RMR and AR pistol w aimpoint. The only SF piece of "kit" I own is a compass for when I go hiking about.

He's a good shooter and I'm not entirely sure what set it off. But he's catching a lot of shit lately, especially by SOF vets and meme pages. His videos can be entertaining but some of it is lol worthy too. The last one I watched was about the MK18 and he was saying that when him and some other dude train SOF (what ****ing unit hires him anyways?), they shoot stock or close to stock guns like the ones they're holding because that's what the unit shoots. Then he proceeds to say that he's using a criterion barrel or something in his near stock gun. Literally replaced the heart of the weapon but states it isn't upgraded so people can't say the gun is why he's better. Another one was his offset RDS video where he was running something like an EOT on the top rail and an offset RDS. WTF.

None of that even mentions the hate he and some others have gotten for having Android phones in Kagwerks cases like they're using an ATAK or something ridiculous. That shit talking is kinda warranted IMO.
