Check out hiking/edc packs like Mystery Ranch, Arc’teryx, Vertx, Hill People Gear, kifaru... depending on barrel length, side folder, look at pack dimensions in the 40+ liter range.

The biggest problem is that few of those have two large vertical compartments, to keep the rifle out of sight and to keep everything else in the bag clear of the rifle. The Vertx bags are busy as hell, but they do this.

Could always have a local seamstress sew in a divider...

It’s an option, just not a particularly good one.

Arcteryx Khard Velcro lined bags had specific add-in kits made to hold weapons. I tried the LBT/LBX kit but Velocity Systems also made/makes one IIRC. Not cheap but all quality. My experience is the 10.5 AR doesn’t balance right when the muzzle is down. I wouldn’t have believed that an eight pound SBR sized gun would be so awkward in a bag...
my understanding is they worked better with HK MP7s. Those were likely the cats pajamas.

Same issue with the Vertx. Cool, but really doesn’t have the structure necessary for a typical AR SBR/pistol.

These are some of the packs that I have seen, have, or used in some capacity. the Erblestock packs are nice. No SBR bag looks exactly right or can get small enough to be normal unless you have some kind of LAW folder or use a SIG MCX.

Not to hijack but intending to piggy-back onto a related topic...

I'm looking for something durable enough for range duty, but made as a rolling duffel, preferably with a drop-bottom to hold two taken-down 16" AR's. Locking zippers would be nice too, as would large or "all terrain" wheels for getting around grass/dirt ranges. Must also be able to hold two sets of 7 mags, eyes/ears, and a reasonable amount of ammo (minimum 500 rounds, preferably 1000), first aid kit, and small tool set for common range repairs; bonus if I can also fit some pistol ammo and mags in too.

Anybody in the M4C Hive Mind ever seen anything like this, or is this one I need to see if MilitaryMorons might be up for refining the concept and suggesting someone to fab from scratch?

Does it need to be a bag? I was looking at a rolling DEWALT 28 in. 12 Gal. Mobile Tool Box for this.

When I need to carry that much stuff, I generally put it in my Pelican 1637. The wheels aren't big, and obviously it's not a drop bottom, but it weighs so much in that configuration that I can't see how a soft-ish bag would work terribly well.

What I can say is that I've rolled/drug it all over the damn place, and while not optimal, it's pretty easy to live with. They do have heavier cases that also have huge wheels, but I don't like the form factor of the body of the case itself. I will say that once you reach a certain weight, two smaller cases are MUCH easier to deal with than one behemoth that weighs 150lbs+, imo.
