All while other officers on and first responders on scene heard the man's pleas.
You don't think in Felon College- Prison, where this guy had been, they learn things like saying they "can't breathe" while being arrested? Really?

Why the hell would you kneel on a cuffed person for 8 minutes?

Even if you were forced to wait at the scene for a supervisor due to use of force, put the prisoner in a car.
When they tried to PUT him in the car is when he went off. We know that much from the little conversation the deceased had with the officer that is part of the recording. That's fact. The deceased SAYS as much.

So he went off, big deal.

Restrain him in full restraints and pick him up like luggage and into the car.

His going off does not mean you kneel on him for 8 minutes.

I don't know WHY the officer did what he did. What I DO KNOW FOR A FACT is that when they tried to put the guy in the car, he went off. When I hear the officers' explanation if any as to WHY he did what he did, I'll decide then if he "***ked up". Until then I'll stick with KNOWN FACTS vs. supposition and "Well, I think....".

I just don't feel we know enough facts at this point one way or the other.

^^^^This. SOP- once I had a subject restrained I stuffed him in the car and off to the LEC. They had enough officers standing around to pick the guy up and get him in the car. Especially with people coming out of the woodwork and getting involved- they needed to clear the scene ASAP. Watching the video just makes me shake my head.

I watched the video, I don't believe I saw him do anything 'responsive' or 'resistive' after 5:16.

Officer kneeling on him displays casual indifference to the subject's condition. This is going to cost the city a fortune, and probably end up with at least one officer convicted.

I one watched a video of a KCMO officer running into an arrest scene and kicking the shit out of a controlled suspect. Don't know what disturbed me more, the officers actions, or the fact that several other officers didn't intervene. Makes you wonder about the culture of the agency.

Kind of same question in my mind here.

I would never sit there and watch a fellow officer do something this criminally stupid. I am willing to bet all 4 officers get jammed up on Federal charges, if not also local charges for the death.

I have no problem of all 4 of them going away, they violated their oath.

And that's a good point. Because increasingly- who the hell would WANT TO BE A COP? Even a Good and Honest Cop? Our local department is about 90 positions under staff- this on a 300 man department! They have lowered Academy and hiring standards TWICE so far in regards to physical ability and prior convictions over the last 10 yeas and they STILL cannot get anyone to do the job. What does that tell you about the future of policing in this country, the quality of likely applicants-- and how maybe 1. If you call, nobody is coming 2. Do you REALLY WANT them to come given the issues?

Great information, thank you. I was pretty confident there was not some blanket procedure everywhere.
