German export laws are fully to blame for the fact that we don’t get actual 416 uppers. Arms Unlimited had HK MR223A3s with 11.5, 14.5, and 16.5 inch barrels in black and RAL8000 for $5500 each, but they are completely sold out. A black 11.5” pistol just sold on Gunbroker for $10,756.

Partially, but we got 91s, 93s and 94s until we couldn't and it wasn't the Germans who said no.

They sent us USCs and SL8s and if not for our laws they could have sent UMPs and G36s in a "not readily convertible" configuration if not for our laws.

Not sure what makes the 416s an exported "weapon of war" any more than a HK 91 but they were 85% of the way there and just gave us that monstrosity of a barrel.

I know the "sporting purposes" shit is usually on our end.

They also got some weird shit with rifles vs. pistols. SP5 and SP5k handguns are fine, but god forbid you sell the same thing with a buttstock. I swear I'll never understand the logic behind either of our countries stupid laws.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

    Chuck, we miss ya man.

In which case I rather have a well made DD barrel. I am very pleased with my DD 16” mid-length. My USC to UMP barrels are the same French steel. Very accurate for .45 ACP PCCs, but like you point out, it takes extra effort to clean them.
