    Bolt Damage.

This particular Bolt/BCG has less than 1000 rounds on it currently, but is probably well over halfway there by my best guestimates.

I know what my opinion is, but I'm curious what the collective minds on M4C think. Does this look like excessive damage on the lugs of this bolt?

Barrel: Colt 11.5" with a BRT .063 gas block insert.

    Surefire SOCOM RC2 suppressor

    Upper receiver: BCM

    Buffer Assembly: Geissele Super42 H2

Bolt: The brand and design is recognizable, but I'm going to refrain from naming them until I hear back from them.

I've not experienced any failures of the weapon thus far, but upon cleaning it after zeroing a new RDS mount, I noticed the wear.

What do you guys think? Soft metal from a bad heat treat process? Something else? Am I just seeing things?

Looks like the back of the bolt lugs at the angled cut are fairly well peened. And only 1k rounds...I've got standard bolts with way more rounds and they look much better. But maybe I'm off base with my observation.

    That's my opinion as well.

I have a Colt with well over 10k that, besides the anodizing, looks much better, and a few BCM's with higher round counts that are good to go as well.

I wonder if you got a bum heat treat?

Looks a bit peened but as long as function is not impacted, I would keep and use as a range/backup bolt...unless they want you to send it in for replacement. I have had good luck with my products from these guys, I am sure they will do you right. They seem to have a really good rep.

    Poor heat treating
I like to avoid the coated bolts

If that's really peening, its also possible that head space may have increased.

A Shorty with a can is going to wear quicker. I'm not sure what you're expecting to find -- a pristine bolt with no wear at all on the lugs? I'm not sure anyone makes a bolt like that.

I think the issue is that its showing that kind of wear after only 1k rounds fire. Kind of a low round count.

...with a Shorty with a fair-sized can, custom insert or not.
