    Its not worth the pain and suffering from not checking the head space. if you plan on building more than one, ever, buy the gauges.

    I always check head space, I don't mess around with that. More than a few semi professional gun smiths (gun store employees) that I've talked to, have told me you don't have to worry about head spacing on an AR-15, but that's my sign I don't need to pay attention to anything they say from that point on. If you don't have a set of gauges, find a local smith that does.

    Has anyone ever had an actual headspace issue on a build? I'm not talking junk parts build... but a legit build???

    I've never even read a single thread on the matter.

    About one in 10 AR's that come through my classes or across my bench have headspace issues.

    The brand might minimize the chance of problems but it does not eliminate it.

    Not checking is silly.

    The only way to correct the headspace issue is to replace the bolt or barrel/barrel extension, correct?
